: New Scout...

Well I scored pretty heavily last week...Friday night to be exact.. A guy named Will comes into my office and asks if I want a scout...I look at him a little puzzled and figure its a POS...Something that I can part and us as needed. "Sure" ~

We start talking about it's history (trans and brake problems) and he says "Its got lots of parts in the back" Then he hands me some pictures and there are a couple of the engine compartment....   Holy Hanna ~ the engine compartment is COMPLETELY rebuilt with all new EVERYTHING...name a part in the engine bay and he's replaced it with new stuff.

Booster? ~ yep. P-valve ~ yep. Steering ~ new pump, box, lines, and borgeson steering conversion. Battery ~ Yep, Optima RedTop w/ quick disconnect for storage no less. Cooling system ~ yep, new fan, shroud, radiator, hoses, and hose clamps... Windshield wiper system ~ yep, even new tiny hoses w/ reconditioned resivoir... Induction & Ignition ~ new Rotten-chester q-jet 650 cfm, new dizzy & coil, plugs, wires, everything in its place.... He even replaced the hood release with a new shiny one... Incredible.

Sure enough I figure its either Stolen or stripped. NOPE ~ he gives me his address and says he'll have it towed to me. I say, I've got a tow guy...let me call him. 2 hours later the rig shows up at the shop... Its not stripped, and the PO provides all the reciepts...and signs the clean title...and leaves. Jeromy (employee) walks out to it and yells back ~ "its pretty clean"...."Look at the engine" I yell back. Jeromy then opens the door, pulls the knob, opens the hood and almost fell backwards. EVERYTHING was there... and EVERYTHING still looked BRAND NEW. Unbelievable.. I walk over and say "Lets see these new parts in back" Sure enough, he's got new filters, new rotors (x2), new calipers, new Premier PowerWelder 140 amp alt (w/ tags), and a few other small stuff (hub caps, case of oil, new manuals vol 1&2, new belts (just in case the new belts wear out)...etc).

Anyway...I started it and drove it...there is no power at all...I'm taking it to Performance Auto for a tune and smog today.

I've got pictures uploaded at: www.dandcextreme.com/willpower/

Oh ~ and to make sure I keep in line with the "hard core only" policy ~ its getting everything we can easily do on it...

Just drove it down...I play'd with some mis-routed vacume lines before we left and got some of the power back, but there is some major vacume leaks going on... He had the PCV hookd directly to the main vacume port on the carb/intake instead of the air cleaner, then stuck a filter on the valve cover ~ so it was sucking a continuous flow of air through the crank... The brake booster wasn't getting any vacume either...so the brakes work a little better now...and it has a bit more power. I also noticed that the kickdown linkage was cut so the TF727 wasn't putting much power down to the wheels...

Performance says that it'll be done later today or tomorrow (for sure)...then it'll be my daily driver until Tera-izer can do some body work & paint...then it'll be in for some suspension upgrades.

I think thats why I'm going to keep the thing... The chances of me spending that much time on the engine compartment is....well... I wouldn't. (at this point). It'd be a shame to let it go.

Yes ~ GAVE... it cost me $45 to have it tow'd from his place to the shop....but thats because he said it wasn't road worthy... If I knew it drove I would have driven it here...

OH, and he did provide reciepts for everything, so I know it wasn't stolen.

What mental illness did you say this guy suffered from?

Everyone that has seen it says that...I think the wife had something to do with it. He wasn't very talkative...just said that he was going to come in for an SOA later when it was up and running...then mentioned getting married, job hopping, and other bills....and that was about it. I wish he'd come back in so I could question him a little further.

How can you take it free. You really should give him some cash for it. Or at least offer it back to him in 6 months.

The guy must be contemplating suicide or something....why would you sink all that money into a Scout and then GIVE it away.....that just does not make sense.

I get pissed off at my Scout but.....geez....it looks things were going his way and his motor just needed a little tuning and some extra tlc.....that's crazy....he needs some help....marriage or not....I still have my Scout..... What does he gain by giving his baby away??

Oh yeah...congrats!! :flipoff2:

The guy says he's married, so that rules out the :rainbow: thing.

If the guy was arab or a little middle eastern looking, I'd look real hard for some stray wires leading into a "onboard air" tank. It might be a 9/11 attack on D&C.

Well its at the muffler shop now...so they will get it. But really, he looked full-blooded american to me. He says he's a WoodChuck, worked out west in the logging industry.
