If you have 63 inch chevy rear springs in your Scout II would you do it again? Or something else?

Same here.... I did run 63's off new 1/2 ton - not on the road but seems way to soft / trading out for a set off of a 3/4 to see if will help, keeping the old ones just in case but I dont see how they could possibly work:confused:

I was going to run 63" Springs in the back but I have already talked myself out of it. They just look too long and too flexy for my own good. You start getting nasty axle wrap, tearing shit up, driveline problems...

I'm gonna go with 56" springs and be done with it.

One day I will put an axle wrap bar on mine, but for now full length overloads will need to do. Currently running 56" Chevy pickup/burb rear springs, The Ford F150 at 57 look good too. Both have an offset center pin
Mine are under the frame. If you run the 63's outside the frame that should give you about the same flex as 56" under the frame. I think I followed Cajun's buildup back then.

I was going to, but I think I've also talked myself out it.... not so much for flex/wrap issues, but more for axle location. I'm trying to push the rear axle back as much as I can and the centered pin in the 63's don't offer me as much wheelbase as I can get from a shorter, offset pin spring pack. For now I have a set of 57" Ford springs that I will use unless I come across a set of mid 90's Dodge 1/2-ton springs. They are ~60" with an offset pin.

i would do it. it was dirty cheap for me and got me decent flex. i dont really have any issues with them so far. so yes i would do it again. then again i am all about built on budget

Mine work great, axle wrap isnt as bad as you would expect with such a long spring. loading it up on hte rocks it will bounce a lil bit but crawling and blasting through sand i get very little if any.

I did 63's from an 06 cheby 1500, and added an additional leaf then took out the overload. flex is good but I wanted to stretch the rear back a lil bit but couldnt because the spring was too long.

I know the feeling Im working on a scout project with a friend that we are planning on taking the 63 springs from my yota and putting them under his terra. The came from a 3/4 ton so I think they will hold the weight.

How about 52 inch chevy springs up front of a Scout II ?

I will have to dig up the pic's when I try to fit some 52" up front. It's been done. But the issue I had was they were a center pin leaf spring, which meant more over hang in the front. Plus the slope of the frame goes down fast at the normal spring hanger location. Which meant mega fangs to keep them level. I ended up with some Rancho 44044 46" and 48" when flat. I know Jeff now sells a complete setup that uses I think 47" or 48" springs?
With the weight of the engine, rear springs are a good option and 52 came on a lot of blazers and what not. If you were to extended the frame a couple inches then it would be doable.

I run 'em from a mid '80's 2wd Chevy.

The biggest hassle is the frame width vs. axle spring perch width. You either need to move the axle perches or hang the spring a little off the centerline of the frame.

Plenty of flew, seem to survive being beat on. I did bend one last run though...

They are a little soft and sag when the gear is added. I need to add another leaf or two for fine tuning. Overall I like it though.

I have seen a lot of people go from 63's to 57's. I think this is the route I will take too. Never heard about the dodge springs....good flex? Stable?

Why don't you try a set and let me know.

Bringing this back to the top.

I've been looking at various chevy and toyota sites where these springs are popular. Flex and ride always gets rave reviews. Reliability seems average for a leaf spring. Anyway I'm kinda of hung up on the question about how far the axle can be pushed back. Unfortunately, I don't have access to my Scout so I'm wondering if someone could measure a couple of things for me. 1. the distance from the very end of the frame to the rear axle bump stops. 2. The distance from the bump stop to the front edge of the gas tank (need to know if you have a stock tank or what. Thanks...

I've done both
the blazer is 54"
28/26
5/16 main leaf

I only used the main with a full XJ pack underneath for my cj. This flex is decent
35"

My yota killed everything flexing at 40". Another yota with the 57" rears and same front springs as mine in front only netted 35" of flex. I loaded the yota up all the time with no proplems what so ever. The only thing I did was I went heavy on the valving of my shocks. I had no body roll even with the dirt bike on back going through the mountains. The shocks were 5100 bilstiens. They wheeled great. Just cut down the overload a bit. I had boilers loaded on that truck:laughing:
