Trying to figure out what is going to be the cheapest and easiest way to get a driver's drop transfer case behind my 700R4. I'm thinking of getting a divorced Ford 205. The 700R is 2wd right now. Would it make more sense to change the output shaft and run a 241 out of a blazer? Will a 241 live long behind a 350? This is all going into an XJ that will eventually be turning 38.5's. Any ideas?

Definately go with the 205. It's the strongest case out there and should not be a problem to put behind your 2wd tranny.
Go with the 205, do it once and never worry about it again.

cheapest way, NP231, s10s had em behind 700r4 (I gotta spare in the garage) they are cheap plenty full, and you can do the tera low 4.1 in em, or buy an atlas, or give me the D60!! :flipoff2:

I would use a 241 from an '88 and up IFS full size GM. You would need to swap the output shaft in the 700R4 to the 4WD version. Also a lot of these 241s have electronic speedo hookup, so if you care about that, it is something to watch out for. 241 is plenty strong behind a 350.

Or you could go with a 261 out of a 1 ton. Fixed outputs front and rear.

Parts mike has fixed yokes for the 241 to...
and you can usually mount em pretty flat cause they were mounted (clocked) higher from factory for hte IFS torsion bars to sit below em...
this 261??? is it a 272 ratio? what splines are the shafts?

Hmmm, the 261 in my '01 2500HD has slip yokes front and rear.
