: Hard top
406 YJ 06-11-2009, 04:07 PM I've been around this site and know what is hardcore and what is not. But after looking at other scout sites I have to say I wasn't that impressed. Can you guys tell me where to score a hard top that's in better shape than the one that came on this 800 I just picked up.

:smokin:first things first, you going to post a pic with some of your H1 rims:smokin:
Finding parts for the 800 is and miss. There are a few other sites out there that might have some classifieds. Binderplanet is one. There is JustIh.org, but there more of a northwest bunch. I would post in the wanted section of the binder and see what you catch. What is wrong with the current one?
Blind Driver 06-11-2009, 06:09 PM Post some pics of the suspension and steering so we may..umm...critique it a bit :p

You might have a hard time doing that.:D
In all honesty it's well built. Locked 60 front, premo hubs, ord highsteer setup.
Rear 14b Locked with disk brakes.
Tera Low kit in the Dana 20
38.5 boggers on black steelies (going up for sale so I can run my wheels and put some 42's on it)
Both Half and full cab.
304 with a 4 speed.
I just took it out with my 3 yr old. We slung mud like there was no tomorrow. She had a blast. Here are some pics from the add when I bought it.
Got a half and full cab.

I agree. Looks damn spiffy!
If you wheel it, you gonna just roll and and smash the top anyways. I would. :D

From 20' it looks fine. Its rusted. Dented on the top and missing a lot of paint. The back latch is jacked. It doesn't line up very good like it's twisted. Just all around it's not in good shape. It works don't get me wrong and I don't need a new one (dont' think anyone makes a new one anyhow). I have the half cab on it now but I don't have a bulk head and I need to bend up a cage for it before I can wheel it very hard and I'd like to have the back seat for my kids so the full cab is the direction I believe I'm going to go. When I grew up my dad had a scout. We took the thing everywhere. It brought back a lot of good times wheeling it today. I look forward to this project and appriciate all the help along the way.

Brandon 06-11-2009, 09:01 PM watch craigslist, easier to buy a complete scout for <$500 than getting a top though, spare parts, part it out or whatever..
BRBowtie 06-11-2009, 09:45 PM Cool scout. I have a few tops...but I am in AZ.
Blind Driver 06-12-2009, 03:35 AM Meh, the top and doors are overrated anyway :)
Harvester of Sorrow 06-12-2009, 09:56 AM That rig is from my neighborhood.

I thought it looks familiar. So you had it shipped all the way to KS. Cool.
Craig's list, Local recycler pages, Local 4-wheeling board, Binderplanet, Just IH, IHOnly (forum) etc are all your best bets. The last two are more west-coast oriented, but people post on them from all over. And its going to be hit and miss. You might find one free, or someone might want $500. Its going to be your call.
Good luck. Just keep your ears/eyes out and something will pop up. Soft-Tops might be available again soon, so that might be an option for you.
war pony 06-13-2009, 11:03 PM I have a top in good shape, almost started cutting it up to match the dove tail. would be willing to trade for, say ...... some recenter H1 12 bolt wheels :D

Freight was a bitch but well worth it. I couldn't have built this for half of what I gave for it. I love old stuff. I wheels thru some trees and wanted something that if I scratched it I wouldn't cry. This one fit the bill:D

No problem. I take paypal:flipoff2:
406 YJ 06-19-2009, 08:03 PM I think I scored a top on a trade. That always works best for everyone. Anyhow...
If someone can fill me in on who makes the best cage. I WANT DOM. I've found a few people that do but they are not DOM and I don't see the point if it's not. I want a full cage. I have a nice bender and bend tech but to be honnest. Building cages is a waist of time unless you can trick it out and this is just a beater. I'm not that worried about how great it looks.
Thanks for those that don't mind throwing me a few names/links!!

war pony 06-19-2009, 08:33 PM So you have a bender you make some cool wheels , So get busy and build a cage. you are the proud owner of a scout, that's Latin for "do it your self." and post pics so we can say " it needs more triangulation" .

That's funny with the "needs more triangulation" That's a running joke around my place too. I've been dicking with this cage for the past year on again off again. I'm tired of the bender and the only cage work I'm wanting to do right now on the "do it your self" is cut some plates and DOM to tie the out of a box cage into the frame:grinpimp::grinpimp:
Any suggestions on who has them?

war pony 06-19-2009, 09:39 PM Not much fun if you just pull from the box, you have the skills by the pics of the j**p. Now just learn to think like a scout guy..... OK you can think like a scout guy with rockwells.:D
