This is a review of the new Rock Krawler Triple Threat kit for my 05 LJ
Rock Krawler Suspension was created by a group of motor sports enthusiast who worked hard and played hard. They have grown to be the North East’s premier Jeep Suspension manufacturer. They produce some of the strongest parts made for the use and abuse that we all put on our rigs. All of there products are real world tested to the highest level of stress and breaking points.
In my search for a new Long Arm kit for my 05 Jeep Unlimited Rubicon I ran across the Rock Krawler brand. I started with brands like Rubicon Express or Skyjacker and from reading reviews I wasn’t convinced that it was the best kit for the money. The turning point for me was when I saw the X-factor kit in action. When they released the Triple Threat Long Arm kit for my LJ, I decided to go with them.
The kit came about a week after I placed my order and in about 18 boxes. Christmas came early! I didn’t have the knowledge to install the kit myself, so I had 4 wheel parts in Tampa, FL install it for me.Three days later I got my jeep back and wow what a difference. I was replacing a 4” short arm skyjacker lift and went to the 6” Long Arm Rock Krawler kit.
The huge lower control arms with their high ground clearance bend lets you know that not only do you have high ground clearance with your long arm kit, but the size of the arms makes you feel like they are indestructible. The upper control arms that were still stock on my 4” skyjacker lift looked like a twig compared to the uppers from the Triple threat kit. When you need confidence knowing any rock you drag your jeep over that your skid plate will hold up look no farther. The skid plate that comes with the triple threat kit is 52 pounds of reenforced steel. It can be bolted or welded for maximum strength. The kit also features Rock Krawlers famous Bomb proof front trac bar. And yes the name says it all, it literally looks bomb proof! For the rear axle they include a rear truss with gives the rear axle some much needed added strength. The truss must be welded on in the right degree so it allows the upper and lower control arms to flex properly, which can be a little tricky but just take your time and keep checking the degree before making your final welds.
On- Road
The kit returns the jeep to an almost stock ride(granted I do have 36” swampers so they don’t ride great) But the ride from the skyjacker kit to my new Rock Krawler kit was a huge improvement. On uneven road or bumps in the road the kit handles very well. It seams to be a little stiff so it doesn’t give you that “floating” feeling. The biggest thing I noticed from the skyjacker kit to the Rock Krawler kit was body roll on road. The body and the suspension and the whole jeep feels very in control. Quick lane changes are done with ease and minimal body roll.
Off-Road
Once you take any Rock Krawler product off the beat-in path you’ll find your limitations far and few. The kit seems to take any type of articulation with extreme ease and almost crawls itself up the hills. Just the other day I was at a mud bog event and even though suspension might not be the must important there, myself and some other jeeps found a great flexing spot and I out flex everyone else with a 6” lift.
Over all this is a great kit for someone that needs a great kit on road and great off road capabilities. I recommend this kit for the extreme and for the beginners.
