OK,
I have a 77 GMC 1/2 ton and am getting ready to get rid of my existing NP203 in it.
I have heard that the Dana 300 Transfer case is a really strong unit and that there are all kinds of gear changes available for it. as well as making it a twin stick.
My question is what would I want to get this transfer case out of, and is there an adapter available to mate it to the Turbo 350 Tranny I have in the truck now.
I know that these transfer cases came mated to a turbo 400 in some jeeps, but I have no plans on putting in a 400 in my truck and the 350 has done well for me especially since I installed an Allison 400 torque converter in it with my new stroker motor.
Thanks for any help here..

How about here (http://www.wagonermachine.com/) Keep the reduction part of the 203 and add a 205 and twin stick it. Or if your heart is set on the 300, they have adaptors for them, too.

Thanks,
I just shot them an e-mail asking them about the adapter..
I have been to there site before, but I found that a grand was a little stiff for a 203. I figure if I can find out what I need to get a 300 out of, it's all junk yard parts except the adapter, plus a budy can rebuild it for cost so I am thinking on the high side this might only run me around 400 bucks.

Dana 300 + Full Size = :nuke:

They came in '80-'86 CJs, and '80 Scouts.
They are a good choice for a CJ, Sami, etc, but are not stout enough for a full size.

I agree. Its just not enough for a fullsize. Did great in a CJ-7 I used to have though.

Well...

I was under the impression that a 300 would hold up to a full size truck..
And considering my weight is over 7,000lbs I guess I should not go there..
If I convert it to a 205, do you know where I can get the lower gears so I can change them when I rebuild it? (since it will be getting a junkyard item, and don't just throw them in and assume they work)
I really appreciate the help..

Thanks

no low gears available yet for a 205. Rumor has it that there is one in the works but they are not available yet. I'm running the 203/205 from wms and love it, If you read the ad it is a $1000 for the 3.8:1 low 203 not for a stock 203.
