oh you just put a 10k figure up there soo. but really you can get unimog axles real cheap. here is a site that sells all kinds of Mog Stuff http://www.exaxt.ca/ The owner is on this board under the name of Ryeguy. You might also want to check out the Mersadies (sp) section of the Great PBB site. BTw you can always sell those 60s to help pay for the mogs.

Try this thread (http://www.sierrarockcrawlers.com/yabbse/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=356) for starters. If you're looking for parts, I'd try here (http://www.expedition-imports.com/specials.htm), though I believe that their prices have risen a bit since I last checked, no doubt a reflection of the recent rise in popularity of these axles.

I have a set of 404s that will someday reside under my CJ-7, search for my posts in the Mercedes forum. Hope this helps, and PM me if you have any other questions.

We can sell you anything for the MOG and Hybrid axles. Complete custom axle or a custom made axle shaft also used axles and axle parts. Diff parts and seals, pinion conversions and disc brake conversion we also offer a Central Tire Inflating System (CTIS). We are working on a ring and pinion set with the overall ratio 5.30-1.

Daniel and Wolfgang Tibus gave me an excellent price on my Mog axles, and pinion conversions.

I got two steering axles with disk brakes, dual calipers per rotor, and deep water fording prepared housing.

I am getting all said above with pinion conversion to my door for less than $5k.

Pics to come of mine when I get them in ~ 2 weeks.

Wolfgang..... tell that boat- full speed ahead!- ; I am ready for the axles.;)

Sean or Wolfgang, what is this deep water fording housing? What modifications were made to make it "deep water fording" or was is a factory option? pics would be great!

The deep water fording capability is a factory option. The seals in the axles equipped with this option are designed to run with positive air pressure inside the casings. Both the differential housing and hub housings have positive air pressure inside of them.

This is not only beneficial in deep water situations, but in any enviroment where debris would try to find its way past the seals, and into the axles, such as sand, or extremely dusty conditions.

OBA is necessary for this system to operate.

All that a picture would show is ports on the differential, and both hubs, with an air line running to it.

Sean,

Is it possible to replace the seals in a stock 404 with the seals from a deep water fording axle? A guy could then just port the housings and outer gear hubs.

([EDIT] I started on this post about an hour ago, but had an involved phone conversation, that is why it seems a little out of timing)

Oh, and I doubt that you will hear from Wolfgang untill morning, because is after midnight where he lives.

So don't get huffy waiting for him to reply today.

To answer your question Daniel..... As far as I know they have not moved yet, Daniel(the other Daniel that sells axles ;)) is still looking for a location to base his business. Also it will be a difficult move for him due to personal family matters.

To answer your question cruiserrg , To my limited knowledge, the conversion is not possible on a 404 axle, at least using stock parts anyway, because the portal hubs are completely different between early/late model axles.
There may be someone making the peices to do a custom conversion for running pressurized housings, but I don't know of it.

But don't take my word for it, because I don't know.

If anyone knows of it, or can make it for you, it will be Wolfgang. They do some very awesome custom things with the Mog axles right now(like never available from the factory CTIS systems) I am sure he will answer every question that you have tomorrow.

Later,
Sean

Deep water fording kit is only possible on the newer (U1300) axles. But the military had a lot of problems with air leaks.
No way for the 404īs.

Here are some prices

brake conversion hub with brackets and bolts cnc-machined of 1 piece Chromo 42/4, nothing bolted or welded together, no core needed, splined in the factory where Mercedes does the splines
USD 950 for the set for one axle.

Pinion conversion w seal, housing and bolts, machined out of 1 piece Chromo 42/4, nothing welded together, no core needed
USD 230 for one axle

Housing ends for the Hybrid (MOG 9") set of 2 for one axle machined out of 1 piece ST 52 Steel USD 250

Custom axle shaft (1 piece) in any lenght and any spline, FORGED (lot stronger) out of 4340 USD 350

Central Tire Inflating System (only for 404 Mog portals also with disc brakes) 2 piece for one axle USD 590

Used (not abused) MOG steering axle USD 1000

Used rear USD 800

Used geared hubs (pair) USD 800

U1300 steering axles used USD 2000

Seal set (1 outer hub seal, 2 shaft seals) USD 55

(prices are subject to change)

Sean, the axles are shipped, hope the boat does not sink.

Do the prices on the used axles include shipping?

Easy

Station

For those askign about shipping. It is reallny not to expensive. I was very supprised when I found out the price.
My 2 , heavy as all heck , axles only cost $275 from northern Germany to Luisiana.

Daniel, Mac Daddy axle depends on your definition. They are going to work great for me with Huge tires and engine, but for most people 404 axles are the better option. The 404 axles put 2.5 ton Rockwells to shame IMO.

The U-1300 axles have air lockers which you will need OBA for. The 404 axles have simple to setup cable lockers. The U-1300 axles are WAY heavy.
