think it'll work, should i weld just spider gears, or to the case also, and should i use filler metal instead of just weldin?

Clean everything really well with brake parts cleaner, weld it really hot, then dunk it in a bucket of old gear oil. This way it will harden the weld. I've also seen it done where it was just air cooled. I don't see any reason to take a chance and not weld the gears to the carrier, if done right, the carrier is what will break, not the gears ( so no need to worry about reusing the carrier. You have the right idea, welding the gears and then filling in a couple teeth, this way if the welds on your gears fail they have no where to turn to anyways.

and time to redo it...

half the welded rears I have seen break in hte first week..

the other half last a long time.....


so you should be able to tell within hte first week if you got bad luck or skills

this is my second Dana 44 carrier I have welded. One is mine, one is a buddies. I have been abusive on mine without breakage of the carrier yet.
