been dinking with it for some time. out of the box from( wildhorses or bc bronco can't remember) it liked about an inch mating up when i tried to bolt it together. so i started grinding on the output shaft. got it down to about 6". should i just keep grinding till it works. seems like an awful lot to cut off.
tossing around the idea of just getting a 435 and 205. i did all the searches and research, it's supposed to fit. anyone else have to shrink the output?

No shrinkage
add 1" spacer to EB 3speed > D20 adapter (6.5")= 7.5" overall
gives ya 2.5" of spline coverage (full spline)
the threaded part of the 2WD output slips into a recess in the D20 input.
I had a write up some where I'll try to find it.

When I got the kit from WH they said you had to cut the threaded portion of the NP-435 output shaft clean off with a cut-off saw or grind it. Mine is cut and I assembled it without any bind.

Some you have to cut off some you don't. You can cut off all the threaded portion with a cut-off wheel. There is a lot of difference in 435's. The one I used was from an F250 with a Dana 21 and it fit with no trimming due to the closeness of the cases.

Remember when you install the adapter to make sure the bolt's don't enter the case and hit the idler gear. The bolt you need to watch is the one on the lower left as you look at the back of the transmission. I installed one that entered the case 1/8" and when it was in 1st and R it sounded like the tranny was coming apart.

found out about the bolts the first time i tried to put it together. i was going to make a 1/8" spacer but decided against it because of the grooves in the adapter are supposed to mate to the tranny. i'll grind a little more and hope it holds up. i think i'll go ahead and find another 435 and 205(208) or whatever to have if this one fubar's.
thanks for the info.got the adapter 2nd hand so no instructions.
god this a fun hobby.
