: what steel size for flatbed?

I am in the design stage of making my flatbed. I have the shape and design fairly well planned out. What I am unsure about is what a good steel size is to use? I think I have it narrowed down to 2x2: .095 or .120 wall, 1.5x2: .095 or .120 wall, or 1.5x1.5: .120 wall. What sizes have been used with good results? This will be a fairly standard box style flatbed.


For just the flatbed frame (no sheetmetal) I will be at about 191lb for the 2x2 .120 wall, 166lb for the 1.5x2 .120 wall, or 140lb for the 1.5x1.5 .120 wall. I don't know why I just typed all that?

I would go with the .095 wall.

.120 is just over kill for a bed.

So is .095 wall 1.5 square tubing strong enough for a flatbed? This is what I would like to use if its adequate.

looks good to me.
2 of those used to support the bed should be good to hold better than 1000lbs.

well you know square tubing is stronger than round tubing:D
