simple question

i know there is a diffrence in frames in the older chevys (80s) between the 1/2 ton and 1 ton but is there a diffrence in frames between the 90s body (vortec style) 3/4 tons and 1 tons?besides a dually axel and springs and motor what sets the 1 ton aside from the 3/4 ton exactly?

I don't think anything changed frame wise between a 3/4 & 1 ton truck in the '91-2000 trucks assuming your not comparing a 2wd & 4wd b/c there is a difference then.

The front suspension is a different from a 1/2 ton though. If I'm not mistaken the control arms, CV's, diff, etc. are all a little bigger.

thanks for the responce.nope 4wd just the frame.im thinking of converting mine 2500 cc single wheel to a dually since i use it for towing mostly and i was just wondering if the frames were equall in strenth.ill pretty much end up with a 3500 minus the motor and it will be cool having a short bed dually.thanks

Are you going to put the dually fenders on your short bed? I have only seen one CC SB dually Chevy in person and it looked allright, definately caught my attention. Where are you located?

All one ton GMs have always come with a much stronger frame than the 3/4 tons. This is true from at least '67 all the way to present trucks.

not that i doubt you cause i did start this thread to find out but i have looked at a 1 ton frame and they look the same as far as height also the spring perches are the same between 3/4 ton and 1 ton iirc.now the 1/2 ton and my frame are totally diffrent.i dont see why gm would make a diffrent frme for all three models where the earlier trucks the 3/4 ton and 1/2 shared the same platform.id just like to see some hard evedince of this and what the exact diffrence is between the 1 ton and 3/4 ton

Actually, in the case of a crew cab my statement does not hold up. 3/4 ton crew cabs are basically built on a one ton frame. Any other 3/4 ton uses the same frame (dimensionally) as a half ton.
