I have a D60 front which is sloppy at the pinion shaft meaning I can grab the front shaft (near the diff) and move it up and down and side to side about 1/16 of an inch. I can actually see the movement in the pinion shaft..... not good.

I'll be tearing into the diff shortly to add a locker anyway so my question is what is the problem and what damage has been done? I assume the pinion bearing is trashed but what else may have been munched?

Open it up and find out... there is no other way to know.... Obviously you have some bad bearings in there....

preload shims, and depending on how the axle as been run, the gears.

if you need new ones i have 2 sets of 4.10's you can have dirt cheap.

Now why didn't I think of that?
