I am looking into a different motor for a buggy build and i am not sure exactly what i want. I had a 700 HP big block but don't wanna try to deal with the carb issues of a race motor. I see the LS1 seems to be fairly popular, what all has to be gotten to hook it up to a turbo 400? What problem issues do they have? What all did they come in? About how much power do they make and what is their RPM range? I am more of an east coast wheeler than a crawler (slick greasy trails) What other options should i consider? I am looking to spend between $2-4,000.

A stock LS1's powerband is idle to 5800 rpm. It will bolt directly to the TH400, but they're better transmissions out there now. I let you figure that out yourself. The real power of this motor comes from the cylinder head design.

You'll want a 6.0L LQ4/LQ9. They came in 2500/3500HD and caddy's as well. They are same as the LS1 just have a 4.0'' bore and iron block but is a Gen III engine. THese are stock 300-345 and can make 400 HP easy. And 500+ with mods. RPM will be up to 6000.

The truck intake will make more lowend torque than the LS1's as well. Most canbe made with three or four wire hook ups for the harness.

The Gen III will bolt right up to a th400 as well. And it would be a good trans to have and can handle the power.

The 2000 is a Vortec 350 and is Gen I {ole 350). The Gen III (LS) truck motors started in 99-up. Some of the trucks still had the Vortec 350 5.7L.

By 2001 most all were Gen III motors 4.8/5.3/6.0.
