ok i have done a bit of searching on here but can find what in asking so here goes.
i have a 84 chevy dana 60 stock with 4:56's. i dont want to upgrade the inners yet but it seams like everyone changes the outers to 35 spline and drive flanges. will upgrading the outers make the axle pretty even on strength?

also i did anything come with 35 spline outers i can sorce for cheap thanks

that is the source, you can even run d70 lockouts, it will typicaly run you $400 to do the convert.

PM dirtchicken. He has a set of new 35 spline outers and the non-neck down inners he is trying to offload for $200.

If you have necked down inner shafts than I would highly recommend you replace them with at least new Spicer non-necked shafts. On my D60 the stock necked down inners were the first thing I broke (before the factory 30-spline stubs).

Upgrading to 35-spline stubs is also highly recommened (I broke 3 30-splines before doing this).

As mentioned, the front D70 axle is the factory application for the 35-spline stubs. However, I wouldn't plan on finding a D70 front axle with the correct parts sitting in a junkyard as they seem to be pretty rare. Either new Spicer 35-spline stubs or something like Yukon aftermarkets are relatively cheap, than a set of 35-spline locking hubs or drive flanges.
