I am having a vibrating issue on my truck. Its a 4runner 85, double t-case allpro x-member and ebrake setup
33" tires, arb lockers front and back. brand new tom woods d-lines w/cvs front & rear. stock 22re around 230,00 miles same on tranny.

I bought this truck and immediately started working on it so I don't know if the problem pre-existed or not.

so it vibrates a lot, its a very noisy ride. but iv noticed that the most noise comes from when decelerating.

I did a search on this but the only one close said that it happened even in neutral or clutched.

my problem however, stops completely when clutch is depressed or any of the sticks in neutral.

Could it be a bearing on the tranny? or maybe engine something? any have this issue? I don't know if its normal, i wouldn't think so. You can't here the radio or talk to the passenger and under stand what they say.

any help would be awesome, thanks -greg

Mske sure the u-joints are centered in the yokes....

ok i checked out all of the things mentioned above. all the u-joints are tight along with pinions in diffs and t-cases, etc. yokes are in line too

I took the truck for a long test drive to diagnose a bit.

I guess i may have over reacted a bit on the vibrations, you don't really "feel" any vibrations at all. so the problem is the engine is VERY noisy.
it sounds like it could be a heat shield or something. so i removed all the shields from around the exhaust and listened around to try and find the problem

when driving the noise goes completely away (except for some tire road noise) when the clutch is pressed or tranny in neutral.
i know that this motor has a ton of miles on it (230,000) but you should be able to here your pasenger talk with out screaming right? or am i wrong, does every ones early model toys require earmuffs?

If its not happening in neutral or clutched I would suspect the clutch is slipping when its being driven by the wheel. Its generally a precursor to the clutch blowing up.

If its just noise, make sure there are no open holes in the fire wall, or exhaust leaks. Make sure the shift boot is installed and in good condition. Get a reall exhaust and muffler, and some sound deadener like dynamat or second skin.

22RE is not a loud engine. I had 242,000 on mine and it purred like a kitten right until it threw a rod bearing.
