September 5/6th at Rausch Creek Offroad Park

Last year was a great event and I would like to get everyone's input for this years Uni-body Run.

Last year the event was on Labor day weekend at Rausch Creek. Once again we will be having a raffle with all contributions going to a charity. This years charity is The Four Diamonds Fund (childhood cancer).

Pipehitter got everything together last year but since he is moving into a new place and getting hitched I am going to take over and try to get everything in order (raffle prizes, T-shirts, and so on)

Like last year we are going to need some help getting everything together.

Post up if you guys can help; vendor support and general support.

Here in this years shirt design

Here are the shirts from last year.

The date is up to you guys. Since this trail ride is for you.

How about I put a couple dates up and you guys let me know what is best for you.

8/22 - 8/23
8/29 - 8/30
9/5 - 9/6

And if any of you guys own or are in good graces with a fab shop or anything along those lines. Let me know if you can help out with donations for the raffle. We had a good raffle last year with a couple pretty nice prices and I would like to do as good if not better this year. PM me or throw up a post.

I'm in for this. I'll probably toss an installed cage in the raffle. I won't have details till we are much closer though.

For dates, September would probably work the best. The 22nd is the 3rd RCrocs comp.

Yep. And I'll be at Big Dogs that same weekend for the Summer Slam & Virginia Tech memorial run, forgot about that.

September would probably work best because there's two weeks on either side for me to fix stuff from the Big Dogs run and also get ready for the next one (sept. 18-20).

As of today. Raffle/door prices are coming from:

Rausch Creek Offroad Park
Truck Stuff and More
Liquid Iron (if Timmay getting everything worked out)

I am working on a bunch more.

I might need a little help when it comes to the shirts. The company that got them for us last year went under. So if anyone knows a good place to get them let me know.

As far as charities....well we need to pick one.

http://www.childrensmiraclenetwork.org/
http://www.pennstatehershey.org/web/fourdiamonds/home
http://www.woundedeodwarrior.org/

These are the three people have asked me about.

Pipehitter has worked with the Wounded OED Warrior Fund and I have worked with the Four Diamonds Fund.

Down-n-Dirty Offroad is making stickers in commemorate the event so we need to figure out the charity so they can design them.

What do you guys think?

personally i just raised a bunched of $$$ WEODWF, unless you guys are gun-ho about the idea...Ashman lost a close friend (Josh) earlier this year and definitely hit home for me (guy w/ yellow FJ) to cancer, how bout giving it to a cancer research foundation in Ash's friend Josh's name...personally i would definately be game for that as i lost a father to skin cancer, almost lost an aunt and grandmother to breast cancer...just my suggestion...

Our last trip to Rausch we were at the shop until 3-4am from Monday until Thursday night putting together my XJ and a CJ. So I know what you mean. I just don't feel like doing the last minute thing to that extent AGAIN.

If No_Bs is going to buy my SX's I think I will have the coin for the ton swap and new tires.

We now have Zach from A to Z Fabrication on board for the event. Zach got me hooked up with a shirt vendor too.

If we are going to go with the Four Diamonds Fund for our charity I can start designing the shirts.

Any objections?

Yes, There is going to be different groups based on vehicle/driver capability.

Some people are ok with roling their vehicle some aren't. Some gays have comp rigs and some will be open with 33's.

So for you guys that are worried you are going to get left behind, don't. You will have a group of your skill level.

I know of a ZJ on 31" AT's that should be coming. So don't let the crazy rigs scare you.

I think Rausch is $35 a day to wheel until dusk. And if you want to get involved in the Raffle or buy a shirt that will be up to you.

All the info is on their website
http://www.rauschcreekoffroadpark.com/

I have a bunch of friends coming up that don't have unibodys but they will be running trails in there own group.

We try to keep the Unibody guys together but you can always go out on the trails with your friends and hang out with all of us after the trail. We will be camping and having the raffle on Saturday night.

Besides, at the end of the day we always hit the comp course. You are bound to see one of us barrel role down one of the obstacles.:D

I am going to tell you now, you will not regret coming. Rausch is an amazing park and these are some great guys. Besides wheeling, it helps put a face to a screen name. (you will get a laugh when you see some of us)

Good to hear, I feel like my rig is small as hell compared to most guys in the thread lol. Only at 4.5", locked rear and 32's (hopefully 33's by this event). But I've been to RC twice before and ran with TJ's, YJ's and CJ's on everything from 33's to 37's, so I should be fine for the slightly less-built group.

Oh, and I'm not fine with rolling my XJ, gotta drive the sucker home! I'd gladly sit at the comp course and watch you guys roll em though! Last time I was at RC in feb/mar, I saw Vetteboy damn near tumble his down a big rock face in the comp course. Luckily he drove out of it.

I have a group of 5 CJ's coming up with me. I am going to wheel with them one day and wheel with the Unibodys another day. I intended on doing the same thing last year but I broke 5 minutes into the second day.

The way I see it. We are going to have a good amount of rigs. So we will have a couple groups going out. If there is one of those weird frame guys in the mix, I don't see a problem. All are welcome when it comes to the raffle. The more money going to the kids the better in my book.

This event is to get us all together and put a face behind the screen name and fab work. And to show that the unibodys can get it too.

Camping at Rausch. They have plenty of room for us. Fire pits and park benches at each site with plenty of room for tents. Also plenty of room for tow rigs and what ever else you will be bringing. Hopefully we can get a couple people with Easy-ups so we can make a little area for the raffle and place to hang out if the weather gets nasty.

Rausch knows we are going to be there with a descent number of people so we will be accommodated.

Feel free to ask any question if you have any.

Yup.

Just an fyi, the ones I got for LII are white on a black shirt, single color. They are priced as follows:

Qty. 12 - 100% Cotton Hanes Beefy Tee Shirts, printed 1 color full front and full back - $12.35. XXL's add $2.00, XXXL's add $4.00.

If you go with a single color logo on a plain shirt, which is what last year's were, it should be the same price.

I can get that logo designed for you along with some thanks to sponsors (LII, AtoZ, etc) on the back. Sound good?

If you guys have any more logo ideas let me know.

As for the music. We start to get rowdy and start playing the Brave Heart sound track. Makes for a good night.

We are bringing a big neon sign up this year so you guys will have no problem finding our camp. For all you guys that know the Quadratec guys, we will be bringing their pride and joy. A couple gallons of Apple Pie. If you have to ask, you are just going to have to find out.

I remember you saying that you blew yours already. The soundtrack was great listening when I had to fix my jeep. I will be there for sure and I have a very long arm so bring the tickets.

Well I should have my 1971 Lawn tractor there to do whatever. Its being modified to have a collapsible light tower, mounted tool box, and a parts bin on it. It should make a good portable station for anyone who breaks something.

For those interested, here's the shirt designs we put together. I believe they'll be white writing on black shirts again. Is that correct Andy?

Yes, they are going to be black with white text. I wanted to keep the shirts dark because I know plenty of us would destroy them within days if they were white. Stains don't show on black. :D

All are welcome. The more we can get the better.

And if you haven't seen it in past posts, we will have trail guides for every level of vehicle and driver. So don't be scared away by some of the more intense rigs.

And if you want to see some good action from the big boys. We will be on the comp course at the end of the day thrashing our rigs.

I never said I didnt like the picture I just commented on the fact that it was his jeep. :D

I was doing some towing today and happened to notice that my transmission (94 f250 IDI turbo diesel) likes to piss out fluid when it warms up. I Know the problem and there is only one thing I am willing to do.... Swap a manual in it:flipoff2: Im going saturday to find a trans and all the goodies that I need for it. Towing the jeep should be a piece of cake with the swap.

Oh and on the tractor I have the basic design for the light tower and I am going to build it next weekend. It will be there for whoever breaks down and needs to work at night.

One thing you might try and convince RC to let us do is a bonfire. I can get my hands on some pallets if we are allowed to do a bonfire.

That's not going to happen. RC is in a pretty strict area when it comes to fires in the woods. Anything outside the burn ring is too big.

Kinda sucks, but at the same time, do we really need a huge fire when it's 90* out?

I have one of the other guys in my group spot me. Him and I work perfect together. It all depends on how fast we are moving on the trails though. Moving fast on the trails means I don't need to spotter. I only tend to use a spotter when I am in high level black or on the comp course when I think I am going to role or am just blind over a ledge.

Bring a friend, hope that he/she is good. If not, body damage. Not a big deal. :D

Ya, I just got off the phone with the girl from the company. She needed 300 dpi and the file to be 12" tall and what ever wide. When stretching the file a bit some of the logos got a little blurry, which we can't really control since our sponsors logos are only so big. She wants to make everything perfect for us, and I couldn't give her exactly what she needed. It sounded like she was going to cry when I got off the phone with her. I just said "don't worry about it, just do what you can. It doesn't have to be in High Def or anything."

But anyways, they are making prints and took my credit card info. So the shirts are getting done.

Now I just have to worry about getting my Jeep running for the event. :shaking:

Who knows when we will get started on Saturday morning. It all depends on when we wake up. I would love to be on the trail by 8:30 or 9 but that just doesn't happen some times. And we have to all get together and setup some groups. So that will take time. If everyone is signed in by 8:30 we will be good to go.

As for the small list. That is the Pirate regulars that are coming 100%. There are a bunch more that are coming that don't get on here much. People from Naxja, RC forum and Right Coast Forum will be coming. So we should get a good amount more.

If we can get some idea?? Like out of thoes listed, all are doing blacks/ reds, OK trail leader is for that bunch?? Figure that out before we show? max per bunch, 5-6 people per group for the hard core??? Maybe a few more in a lighter group? We get something close to 20+ rigs or more, 2 groups of 5-6 for some reds/blacks. Than ya need 2 trail leaders. One group of ten doing lighter trails, there trail leader is " " than ya find thoes people, find the trail leader, off ya go..Maybe make it a little quicker to get groups on the trails? The new people, greens/blues may take longer. A group already figured out for the more hardcore once all together and ready can get on the trails a littel faster?

Just an idea??
I like it in a group of 4 or so doing black/red trails. Everyone knows what to do, just wheel. Doing lighter stuff, bigger group is fine??

It is kinda hard to really set anything in stone before we get there. Since a good amount of us with be there Friday night, I think we will talk about it then.

I was up at Rausch on Saturday for the RCrocs Finals and I got a lot of our prizes from our sponsors.

- Adventurous 4x4 gave us a bunch of recovery stuff and a Rockcrusher diff cover.
- Zach from A to Z gave us some gift certs
- Truck Stuff and More gave us some shop equipment

The Down and Dirty will be at the event to give us a bunch of stuff. Rausch will be throwing in a bunch of stuff from the park. And Tim(Timmay) from Liquid Iron will be throwing in some gift certs as well.

Have a Lathe but no mill. Even though I am waist deep in my own crap, if you need any help let me know. I should be at Timmay's shop on saturday. So I won't be to far.

Any chance your lathe can chuck up & section 8" solid stock?

I'd need a mill and rotary index to finish the project, but just getting the pieces bored thru and the shoulders/OD cut would save a ton of time & money at the machine shop.

For now I'm putting together another one of these fuckin things. :shaking:

One broke from landing on the driveshaft, the other broke from crashing into a tree to a dead stop at Line Mountain doing 30 mph through the woods. I'm sure 'support' somewhere would have helped, but I have no idea where you'd put it for that kind of situation, and I have no interest in cobbling up a bandaid fix for something with such day-ending potential.

Both broken ones cracked through the same exact portion of the case, the same bolt holes, identical fracture line. I'm willing to chalk one up to shitty luck but with two failures that are so similar I'd call it a definite weak point.

To give you an idea of the impact...

Worst case you could run it like it is for a weekend. The front end that is. Can't exactly wheel without the doubler case.

Either way I still have to either pull it back forward or cut it off and start over. I may try just hooking the winch to it and pulling, we'll see what happens. I took this Friday off so I should get a bunch of stuff done.

And yeah, I had some nice marks from the harnesses and some stiff muscles for a few days after that. Can't wait to try again. :D

vetteboy79
08-26-2009, 10:32 PM
I looked at the front more tonight, it should be easy enough to pull it back.

Got 1 new Timbren bump from the local truck supply today to try a new bumpstop configuration in the rear; one of my Timbrens was completely shot. As hard as the rear was bottoming in this thing because of that I'm surprised the rear shocks are still in one piece. Should be a big improvement with the new style Timbren if it all works the way I think it will.

Case is ready for welding, there's either a local guy who's gonna do it thurs or fri if he has time, if not I'll do it friday. I'm pretty sure the blockoff piece could just be JB welded in there and it wouldn't make a shit bit of difference anyway.

So Friday night we should be rollin again and 90% ready to hit the trails. If that's the case I may load it up on Saturday and go bomb around at RAC for a few hours to make sure.

And where are you located? If it came down to it, I could hook my Ram up to your trailer and bring it up.

For the trans I would Ideally need the cross member, bellhousing, and clutch. I can get all the pedal assembly, lines, and master/slave from the JY's for under $50.

I live outside of allentown about 30-40 mins north of you. Town of Macungie (rt 100). As far as a trailer goes I need to talk to a guy at the golf course about borrowing their trailer (~21' beaver tail dual axle deck over)

I have physical therapy after work today so i'm really not going to be able to really work on it.

As for the trans and everything, we don't have any that are together. Your best bet is to go to Joe's EZ pull in New Ringgold. Last time I was there they probably had 5 or 6 trucks with a T18 in them. There was a IDI truck there with a 435 which would have the bellhousing you would need. It was a Green Reg cab dually. It is a great "you pull it" yard.

Come to think about it. I don't have a brake controller so I wouldn't be able to pull anything. Crap.

Jeep moves again. Timmay took some time out of his new shop preparations to weld up the blockoff plate for me.

Quick recap:

Ouch.

Cut that shit out.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2506/3869419786_e4b810187a.jpg

Make new stuff.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2455/3868638747_83d113718b.jpg

Rear bumpstop, guess this is why the rear was bottoming out hard.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2509/3869419990_4c149e1c04.jpg

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3505/3869419686_2e7d31dc4e.jpg

I made this little piece out of a chunk of 2" UHMW round stock and a 3/8 stud.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2593/3869419956_de4d18fe24.jpg

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3529/3869420030_dd02b9d57a.jpg

Semi-bump. The new Timbren lower piece will compress to 7/8" before it becomes solid; that's roughly 7500 lbs. Should be a nice improvement over the old ones which bottomed nearly under the weight of the jeep.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2496/3868638959_bdce46bf68.jpg

Ride height:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3472/3869420084_db63b68a78.jpg

I also have six worn out heim joints, the lower kingpin bearing on the passenger side is pretty much shot, and two out of three bolts going into the block for the pass. side engine mount are gone. One cracked the boss off the block and one sheared off. I'm just going to pretend I haven't noticed any of this stuff until after labor day.

Can you tell it's been a hard year of wheeling?

the 33's we have sitting around are 15" rim

If I can get my hands on some 15in rims could I borrow your tires? I just want to have a little bit more meat than a bald 30" tire.

How is everyone else??? Here is a picture of how mine sits as of today. Steering is a little limited but it will work for this weekend. I have a couple more hours to button stuff up but it is pretty much ready. The stuff I need to do is just the little things that will make the weekend more enjoyable.

I'll make it but won't have everything done that I wanted. It should work ok though. I should probably look over the tow rig, we'll see about that.

Our tow rig is fixed and the trailer is finished. Up-pipe got replaced and EGR got deleted on the super duty. :mad3:

Gotta do the other side timbren on mine. Also I found two of my anti-rock rod ends were shot so I ordered replacements from McMaster ($9.60) instead of Currie ($29.99). Same exact part too.

Guess I should probably paint the front tube so it's not patches of primer red, and I'll see about attaching the passenger headlight again so it looks less retarded. :ogre:

Gotta make another tow rope, my last one got picked up by the sweepers at Line Mtn after I left it in the woods. :(

Other than that...it crawls, digs, gets it, stops, and sounds like a trainwreck going down the trail. We'll see what happens. :)

I think we should put a run together after this one??? make it the unofficial run for people who could not make it because we all wait for the last min to get our junk fixed or finished??? Call it, "done in time run".. :smokin:

Proceeds going to the GF's or wives that made it through the long long nights in the shop working on our junk just to NOT finish in time to spend MORE time getting something else going?????? And to he guys who lost someone/maybe girls too, to the endless hours we put in to get things done and allow us to wheel?? and than the guys who needed ONE more pay check to make it.. ONE more week, NOW can make it for the next run and not wait another year :)

I haven't even started to make a list of what needs done on the rig. Hopefully it isn't too much. First I need to get my 67 pontiac running and moved so I can get one of my xj's out of the driveway.

I'm waiting to hear from a friend to see if he has fixed a motor mount in his grand. If not then he is taking his zuk and we will just prerun some for the race the following weekend and join ya'll around the camp fire in the evenings.

I am going to call ex pull tomorrow and see if I cant exchange this trans for the right one. This probably means I cant tow my jeep out to RC. Does anybody have room on a trailer for a second jeep? Ill split fuel with you if you can.

Other than the truck issues I am taking time thursday night and friday morning to get the jeep ready and pulling spare parts.

Just got back today. It was great meeting everyone and I definitely had a blast wheeling with everyone for the first day until my radiator started leaking. Put in some stop leak and it didn't leak for the rest of the weekend.

I thought the popping up front was my CV shafts, but apparently it was a busted crosspin hitting the pinion, so that took me out of commission part way through Sunday.

Thanks for takin the lead and getting this event together, Andy. I think it went off pretty well. Any idea how much we ended up getting for the charity?

I had a bitchin day of wheelin on Saturday, but Sunday got cut short when my doubler cracked in half (#3) haulin ass down the trail to the west property. I tore it all apart today and found out that the slip yoke on the front driveshaft was packed full of mud & grease and was basically 'hydrolocking' on the last 3/4" of travel. I'm about 90% sure that somewhere along there I took a hard hit on the passenger side and bottomed out the front driveshaft on that mud/grease/shit blockage, which cracked the doubler case.

I still had an awesome weekend though, and it was great meeting a bunch of new XJ guys. Can't wait to wheel with y'all again, hopefully I'll have my stinkin drivetrain issues figured out soon.

It was good meeting everyone. I'd be more than happy to run with you guys again sometime, maybe we can meet up at Big Dogs. I think we are at camp 1.

X2 what Vette said, it was good to meet some other XJ folks for a change. We had a small group of 3 with VERY capable rigs, and covered a BUNCH of ground in the park running blacks. It was a fun day. Sorry we missed the raffle, had to get home Saturday evening due to early plans on Sunday. No prob. on the gift certs, I had a few extra and they went to a great cause.

Hey... if you folks have any interest, we are doing an event at RC called Rocktober-Fest on Oct 9-10th... It will be based out of a local campground (no, not Echo Valley), and they will be catering a Saturday German feast...
