I had to take my distributor out of my 95 Nissan pickup the other day, now that I put it back in it is advanced as far as it will go and it is only at about 7 degrees it is supposed to be 10 degrees. I had not checked the timing before pulling the distributor but it was definitly not all the way advanced. What would cause this?

assuming a Nissan is like an american pushrod V8 , it sounds as if you reinstalled it a tooth or more differntly then where it came out.

pull it up just enough to feel the teeth engage as you try and spin the rotor, and advance it one click at a time until you get it back to where it should be.

I know nothing about nissans, but maybe that helps

Like the guy said, you have it off by one tooth when you put it in. Take it out, turn it back a tooth and put it back in. This isn't rocket science.

Did you remove the plug wires and were they put in the correct positions?

Not being familuar with a Nissan I woudl also say the timeing chain/belt could be stretched or as JeepinIan said are the plug wires off one place.
