I tried to search but didn't get any results. I am looking for info on swapping a 1.6 8 valve block into a 91 fuel injected 1.3. I've heard it's fairly straightforward. I have a 1.6 block that I got for free so cost isn't an issue. Anyone done this? Have any input? What are the opinions on the power gain? As I said I have it so tats fine but if its not worth the time I don't want to waste it. Thanks for any input.

the intake and exhaust manifolds are interchangeable on the 1.3 and 1.6L 8v. so you will still be able to use all of your wiring and throttle body off of the 1.3L engine. Its definitely worth it if you have the parts for the swap already. The 1.3L engine is pretty weak. The 1.6 isn't a monster by any means, but any power gain over the 1.3 is noticeable.

I got the calmini kit and it went in like it was made for it!! keep your sammy starter, though.

I used the 1.6 starter on mine. The ones from the auto's are slighty torquier as well.

really? I didn't think they'd fit. did you use the tranny that came with the 1.6? I had the sammy tranny so I just reused the starter. I don't remember if I had the 1.6 starter and tried to fit it or not.:smokin:

I assume you need that adapter for the 1.6 motor to the stock tranny. Anyone have any issues with the fuel injection? I know the head will bolt rght on but will the bigger 1.6 require more fuel?? Also what about motor mounts? Thanks for any info.

the motor mounts into the frame different, if you buy a swap kit it will all work out very nice, in 2 samis at the shop we just cut the motor mounts out and rebuilt ones lower into the frame, only for the full intention of saving a few bucks, the aftermarket motor mounts for the swap kit are a 1000 times better and from my experiance easier to work with. most of the big aftermarket sami companys sell the kit. everytime ive swaped a 1.6L into a sami ive used the complete harness from the tracker, i do know that your fuel pump can handle the 1.6L as mine has a 16V motor and runs off the stock pump.

i understand it's a pretty simple job. the efi shouldn't be to bad either, the tbi system runs on a small number of circuits compared to the ford eec-iv i am familiar with. i guess i will find out soon enough. we're parting out raging squirrel and building a nice light little sammi. something more fun to drive in the woods you know. the new 1.6 8v i just built as per Little Black Sambo's article (runs great, thanks LBS!) will get a new home in an 86 sammi.

there is some great info posted under "no spark 1.6 8v conversion".
