Don't waste your time...
I figured I'd support a local pirate vendor, great lakes offroad, and also, for the price of $45 shipped, I figured my time making a set + steel costs, it would be a wash..
After researching them first, I found plug ugly's article (http://www.fullsizebronco.com/forum/showthread.php?t=72090) about them not fitting with ford van rotors(which everyone uses)
so I asked..
....How much does a set of bolt on ones run? how about weld ons? shipped to 49963
I assume they use 99' E-350 rotors, and chevy calipers?...
His response was.
correct on the parts, bolt on $45.00 delivered. Paypal addy is...
Of course, before plunked down cash I had to comfirm it by asking
Thanks that sounds like a fair price. I was reading elsewhere that these brackets required you to machine the hub for chevy rotors. Are these a new design, that uses the E350 rotors then?
To which I got the reply
same bracket different rotor use the E-350 rotor.
Of course, a mans word is good enough for me, and I paypaled the cash. I must say that initially through these PM's, customer service was top notch, and all replys were within minutes of me asking a question. Of course this changed after I clicked the "send money" button :shaking:
after a week and a half, I sent a few PM's, and called a few times, politely asking if there was any reason I hadn't seen the parts yet(I know it's not a long time, but after my housemate waited 4 1/2 weeks for a set of beadlocks form the same vendor, with never a returned phone call, and very minimal returned PM's, so I was starting to wonder)
At the 2 weeks after ordered mark I was promised a tracking number, which never materialized.
After 2 1/2 weeks, the brackets finally arrived.. But low and behold, they don't fit... same issue as the ones plug ugly got years ago....:shaking:
After asking about it.. GLO replied..
Sorry, I didn't catch you stated 19999 E-350 rotors. We were using early to mid E-350 front rotors. Sorry for any confusion. Shawn
To which my reply was(A bit assholish sounding, but I think most people would be too in this sitiuation)
Well... that would have been best to know before I had a pair of expensive rotors sitting here, that I can not use...
But what exact FRONT E-350 rotors is one supposed to use.. SRW E-350's have the hub and rotor built as one piece... And the DRW ones are designed to be mounted BEHIND the hub, which there is no safe way to on a sterling hub... Because there is not enough knurl on the wheel studs..
Either way, any rotor that has a large enough ID to slip over the sterling hub, will have the same issues as a the rear E-350, The caliper brackets are simply too short.
I had previously read about this issue with you brackets, and thats why I specifically asked if these now work with the E-350 rotors...
The reply I received back...
The 99 rotors should be a metric pattern from my understanding this is why I stated I did not think they would work. From what you have told me I beleive we sent you the wrong brackets. Yes originally we tried using our old D-60 brackets w/ a 75 chevy rotor to complete the kit. It was on the fly w/ a guy here on the board. Since we started using the mid 90's rotors (which are larger to clear the hub) we had to use a taller bracket. My guess is we sent out the wrong brackets and you need the correct ones. Shawn
Of course, now it's been almost 2 weeks since I've last heard from him.... still no reply back as to if I'm getting the "correct" brackets now... or my money back...
Won't return my phone calls
Won't reply to my PM's...
I mean, the brackets seem to be a quality piece, as are the diff cover, and beadlocks my buddy bought from him... but customer service?? whats that..
I mean, I really hate to have call someone out like this, especially a vendor, but what else can a guy do?
I guess I want this to also serve as a warning for anyone else who might be looking to put discs on a sterling..
