FOREST SERVICE SCHEDULES PUBLIC MEETINGS
TO DISCUSS UPCOMING OFF-HIGHWAY VEHICLE PROGRAM

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE , CA, AUGUST 13, 2001 - The Forest Service, Lake Tahoe Basin
Management Unit (LTBMU) will be holding an Open House Meeting at the Kings Beach
Conference Center, Kings Beach, CA on Monday August 20, and at the U.S. Forest
Service Office on August 21, at 870 Emerald Bay Road, South Lake Tahoe, CA between
the Hours of 4 and 8 p.m. to discuss the upcoming fall 2001 and summer 2002 Off-Highway Vehicle Program (Green Sticker) at Lake Tahoe.

Off-Highway vehicles commonly include motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), and
four-wheel drive (Jeep type) machines that are capable of operating over rough roads and
trails. Travel with these vehicles is legally permitted only on designated roads and trails
on National Forest Lands within Lake Tahoe Basin.

The Open House forum will be used to discuss the OHV program including: wildlife
monitoring, operation and maintenance of the 12 miles of OHV multi-purpose trails and
approximately 20 miles of roads of OHV quality, and facilities such as the McKinney Creek and Blackwood Canyon Staging Areas, law enforcement and patrol activities, signing,
urban issues, public education and public concerns with various aspects of off-highway
vehicle recreation.

In addition to the meetings, the public is invited to send written comment on these
activities by mail or e-mail. The mailing address is:

These comments will be used to build the funding requests to the State of California
Off-Highway Vehicle Division for the next year. Comments need to be received by August
