: After market radiator installs
JonsYJjeep 06-26-2009, 08:57 PM Anyone have build pics of their after market radiators. I just bought a Thu-kool Ford radiator, 21" wide and 21" tall. Pulled out my old one and thought this would be a piece oh cake.. (DOH!!) I'm trying to decide if I want to cut, move the grill forward a bit or what... The bottom of the radiator hits my gear box so I need move it to the passenger side more.
So I'm looking for some build threads that involve an after market radiator. Already did the search thing. No such luck. Most people where looking for radiators etc..

offroadman83 06-27-2009, 03:01 PM I will see what I can get for you as I am running the same radiator. Let me tell you with my amc 304 in there we had to cut the grill a whole lot and had to go to hood pins and cut out some of the hood reinforcement. Was a major pain. ------------------Kyle
JonsYJjeep 06-27-2009, 10:27 PM I need hood pins anyways. But it does look like a PITA to install. I thought this was going to be something I could whip out in an hour or two. :shaking::shaking:
bs.92yj 06-27-2009, 10:54 PM I got a bolt in radiator from a company Superier Radiator i found on ebay, it's a two core the one i bought was for a chevy-dodge motor swap super nice and to make my wife happy the stock ac condencer fit in the grill. The 360 magnum runs like 180 F all day all for 199.00 plus shipping.
Lars915 06-28-2009, 06:22 AM I'd send it back and get one with mounting flanges. My AFR Ford conversion radiator was only about $200 and it dropped right in. Took about a half hour to install.
offroadman83 06-28-2009, 05:29 PM It was worth the pain to put it in though. My Jeep runs so cool with the taurus fan installed. I love it..........I am still working on getting the pictures.......I am on the road as I had a family reunion this week. I haven't forgotten.
JonsYJjeep 06-29-2009, 12:23 AM This is where I'm at so far. tomorrow I need to work on the plumbing and secure the radiator some more.

CJ4U2NV 06-29-2009, 11:11 AM I got a radiator from Summit's clearance section for $99. It's for an 84 Cuda I think, but I was able to make it fit.

DieselDent 06-29-2009, 11:28 AM Picked up a Be Cool universal dual core from summit and installed it with a Taurus fan. I ran an aluminum strap across the top which I also used to mount the top of the fan then made a bracket out of 1/4" square tube steel for the bottom. It's made it through quite a few trips to Rausch Creek and plenty of highway miles, I barely have to turn the fan on the radiator alone does a pretty good job of keeping it cool.

JonsYJjeep 06-29-2009, 09:24 PM Well I worked on the radiator some more today. I kinda got lucky for hoses. I went to Autozone, browsed the hose section and picked out the perfect one for the bottom. Bought a 12" electric fan. I still need to put hood pins in and really need to secure the radiator a bit more.

Cannot pull up my pics at work, but check my build thread in my sig.
Good luck! Let me know if you have questions,
T18SJ 06-30-2009, 11:42 AM I do not believe the single 12" fan will be enough to keep your Jeep from overheating when going slow in hot weather.
I would suggest you switch to either a single large OEM fan & shroud combo or one of the better twin fan & shroud setups.
The large OEM seven blade fans and fan clutch as used on the 360 or 401 full size wagoneers has worked well for me in the past on similar Jeeps and they don't cost much from a junk yard. This is assuming you have room in there.
The new radiator looks good.
flexj 06-30-2009, 05:36 PM I agree that a 12" fan won't keep you cool. I got one of these on ebay

I like it so far. Nice install on the rad though. I'm going to try a 19x22 when I do my TPI install.
CJ4U2NV 06-30-2009, 08:41 PM gotta disagree. my 12" keeps me cool in any weather at any speed. then again i only run it when i'm going slow. that alum radiator cools quick.
offroadman83 07-01-2009, 06:01 AM Well looks like your mounting looks really good. Guess I won't worry about posting the mounts on my jeep. Its about the same idea really. Oh and I agree with everyone else...............that 12" won't cool anything! I know cause that is what I started out with and then had to go to the taurus fan. Best money I have spent was on that taurus fan!! It work wonders!
chris demartini 07-01-2009, 06:11 AM return that 12" tranny cooler fan and get a 16" SPAL or 17" Derale 2 speed.
JonsYJjeep 07-01-2009, 08:23 AM Yeh I'm a little worried about the fan. I might have to go bigger, but for now the jeep wont get over 190. As soon as the thermostat opens it cools down quick.
So I'll see how this works on the trail. If it gets hot I'll get a new one.
