I have a 1990 YJ with a 4" skyjacker lift kit installed and it has the included drop pitman arm that came with the kit. My problem is although this makes the drag link angle shallow it also puts it very close to the tie rod. I have prevented too much smashing by using bumpstops to prevent too much uptravel but I would rather not limit this so much. what have other people done in this case?

I don't know what axles you have but if you tap the pass. side and put a steering arm on the pass knuckle you can prob. ditch the drop pitman arm. Post up pics and I can tell you more.

I have the stock HP dana 30. here are some pictures where you can see how close it is. sorry the pictures are kinda small.

best solution: Dana 30 high steer knuckle. Moves the drag link to a much higher point on the knuckle. You can ditch the dropped pitman arm, and put the factory one back on and the drag link angle should be more or less level.
It's too much money to spend on a D30 IMO.

I've seen bent drag links shaped like a "Z" that corrects angles and allows use of the stock pitman. It woulds do the same thing, but much cheaper. Also weaker though. But you probably aren't running tires big enough to bend it. If you were, its time for a new axle anyway.

Why not just take the drop pitman arm off?

it looks like you have plenty of room to put the stock arm back on.

I say high steer on pass side and put stock pitman back on. Please don't do the "Z" drag link. That's ghetto

It looks like you are still SUA. All you need to do is take the drop pitman arm off.

Thanks for the replies, I am now thinking about going back to a standard pitman arm. I don't think the angle will be too bad and it will be cheap.

I agree high steer would be best but I will most likely save that until I upgrade to a better axle which I can't afford to do right now.
