: Boatsides....do IH guys do it?
BeefCakeScout 07-01-2009, 05:50 PM I have seen dovetails and comp cuts and all that, but I can't find a boatside pic of a scout. I searched here, google, bing, photobucket and BB to no avail. anyone have a pic I could use for reference?
EDIT: My search here was for boatside(d) scout/ Scout boatside(s)/ Boat Side scout etc...... Searching for Boatside in the title doesn't net any IH stuff
RustoleumWhite 07-01-2009, 05:55 PM Only a couple picture's I've seen. I'm sure many others have done it.
I know a couple of Oregon guys(and gal) have some rigs done that way. I'll have to see if I have time when I get home to search around.
BeefCakeScout 07-01-2009, 06:04 PM Yeah, I know it has to have been done, Just can't find it. I saw the snoopy build, but thats all tube.
235frog 07-01-2009, 07:25 PM There is a scout that has them in this thread. http://www.ihonlynorth.com/forums/bay-area-binder-society/1359-introductions-3.html
You might try and get in touch with him, his screen name is 1tontractor.
reuben 07-01-2009, 07:50 PM I cut up to the lower door hinge,

ChiScouter 07-01-2009, 10:00 PM Nonpiratescouter has a big buildup thread on JustIH site. It took me over an hour to read it through. Its a pretty neat build. Im not sure, but I think she has a different username there.
BeefCakeScout 07-01-2009, 10:46 PM cool, thanks guys! I'll be cutting my 800 up, but those II's were just the inspiration I need. Been building my jeep and TALKING about my scout. So, I recently changed my focus (after watching Warpony's build and his very gentle urging for me to start mine) to the scout. Hopefully I'll be throwing a build thread up next year sometime, so you all don't have to piss and moan about updates:flipoff2:
Thanks again!

wow how dose the j**p feel about this?
Mechanos 07-02-2009, 12:00 PM Didn't jdjanda or someone like that boatside their Scout a few years ago?
BeefCakeScout 07-02-2009, 12:16 PM wow how dose the j**p feel about this?
Yeah.......the j**p doesn't know, and I plan on keeping it that way......I'm such a whore:flipoff2:
Besides, i'm gonna have to sell the j**p to buy scout parts
plug ugly 07-02-2009, 01:59 PM Ill be interested in what you come up with. I too and going to try and boat side my 80, but am stuck between as much clearance as possible, or running a boat side down to the bottom of the frame rail. Still not sure which is better.
Are you shooting for functional doors, or running without?
Old Scout 07-02-2009, 03:23 PM Didn't jdjanda or someone like that boatside their Scout a few years ago?
Yup Joe did, way back when he lived in Cali
reuben 07-02-2009, 05:07 PM Didn't jdjanda or someone like that boatside their Scout a few years ago?
Joe cut out his rockers and raised them with some square tube, more of a rock ski set-up not boatside.
plug ugly 07-02-2009, 05:11 PM any pics anywhere?
ChestonScout 07-02-2009, 06:04 PM Here is a few pics of mine. Cant see them to great but they are there. If you want I can go out and take a couple more pics of just the boatsides.
The boatsides are one of my favorite mods Ive done to the Scout
ChiScouter 07-02-2009, 10:00 PM This is the rig I was talking about earlier http://www.binderplanet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12644 Its a pretty cool buildup with a lot of stuff done that I hadn't seen before
ChestonScout 07-02-2009, 10:04 PM One more I missed

since i plan on taking my time and doing it right, I'm gonna go with functional doors. Probably just cut up to the bottom hinge or possibly raise the bottom hinge and go higher. They do look cool ran to the bottom of the frame, but I think for functionality i'll go to the top and make new body mounts.
This is still just bench racing though.
Snoopy 07-04-2009, 12:15 PM Old Sarge here in Colorado Springs did something of that nature and kept his doors functional too. I believe he did a box-tube rocker, but kept it high. He then cut the doors bottom off to fit, he goes by skymags (or something like that) on the BP site, and has several pictures of his build there.
May be worth looking at.

plug ugly 08-02-2009, 11:54 AM Dboy, how much of the floor did you have to cut? Ive been looking at doing mine, and the only difference I came to was that I would cut to the next step up along the door sill (bottom of door instead of where the 'flange' meets, and just cut that bottom lip off the door). I was trying to get an idea of how much of that floor corner I would have to remove.

I didnt have to cut any of the floor up but did have to notch one of my tubes (center one) about an 1", The front tube goes in front of the floor metal and the rear goes through the old gas tank space. So bring where i cut down about 2" and you wouldnt have any problems. but if you wanted to go higher youd probablly have to take a 1" by 1" chunk at an angle out of the inside corner of the floor. Or you could get a few peices of 2" tube and cut them at 45degree angles and cover the tubes coming through the floor. Does that make any sense?
plug ugly 08-02-2009, 03:35 PM yes it does, thanks. are you using 1.75"?
yes it does, thanks. are you using 1.75"?
1.5" 1/8 wall
plug ugly 05-22-2010, 09:58 PM anyone else, Im still debating how far up to cut.
MochaMike 05-22-2010, 11:15 PM Here is are some old pix of mine (old because it's with d44s on 35s).
I just went out and measured... With D60s, 2.5" BDS YJ springs SOA on 33" BFG AT (bald rollers) I'm at 28".

guidolyons 05-23-2010, 04:14 AM I haven't done mine yet, but I plan on cutting very similar to Mocha Mike's. Dboy's looks good, too.
guidolyons 10-21-2010, 09:14 PM I got mine done. The mini boatsides are 2x2x.188 angle, 1x2x.080 rect tube, and 3"x.188" strap/flat stock. There are 20 bolts in each one (eight 3/8" bolts countersunk along the bottom, and twelve 3/8" bolts along the top edge with nut plates inside) the mini boatsides took care of my rusty rocker panels, protect the stock side gas tanks, give me some protection and a little more clearance under the doors/rocker panel. I will be trimming the fenders and clean up the edges.

plug ugly 11-10-2010, 12:53 PM hey Mike,
do you get hung up on the frame tie ins? Im still working on placement for mine, and am not sure If I go to the top of the frame that I can get away without a skid plate of some sort.
MochaMike 11-10-2010, 02:14 PM Not that I know of.
The only places I've ever heard and grinding or have seen any marks are on my actual sliders, frame rails, some of the connectors, and my tranny.
plug ugly 11-10-2010, 03:13 PM ........some of the connectors..........
do you mean the spreaders that attach the slider to frame?
MochaMike 11-10-2010, 04:06 PM Yes
plug ugly 11-10-2010, 06:59 PM thats what I meant by frame tie ins.
basically, Im trying to figure out if I should mount my tie ins to the bottom of the frame and have a nice sloped boatside
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/836607/fullsize/slider1.jpg
, or to the top part of the frame and have less angle, but 2" or so better clearance. sorry for the shitty pic
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/836608/fullsize/slider2.jpg
MochaMike 11-11-2010, 12:36 AM You might want to....
The top 2x4 rocker guards (like yours) that I have are actually just below my floor line. They receive 90% of the abuse.
NonPirateScouter 11-11-2010, 06:55 PM thats what I meant by frame tie ins.

Damon, mine are mounted at the top of the frame and work great! Lots of clearance and no hang-ups. Lookin good!
plug ugly 11-11-2010, 09:13 PM yeah Jen, I recall, but thanks. I want to leave the top of my frame open for fuel/air/brake line plumbing and dont want to cut much of the floor out. I have big feet.
MochaMike 11-11-2010, 11:09 PM Run them off the top, but drill holes in them & run tube through for fuel & electrical.
