Hey guys!!!!
My wife has been looking to get one of these for awhile now and this one is local to us (70 miles)...What do you guys think?...I think it is a good starting point...
1974 International Harvester Scout Scout II (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190317811047&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:MOTORS:1123)
Up for auction is my pride and joy, daily driver, modified from original factory form, 1974 International Scout II. 24 large photos below, please enlarge them for a fine view. PLEASE take a moment and read this to see what you are missing if you don't bid! It is currently registered, inspected, and insured. However, since it has a custom shackle reverse and custom ride height and bumpers, I am selling it FOR PARTS. I assume no responsibility after it leaves my land! There are tons of great parts here to be used on another project. My loss is your gain. Part this out and double your money!
Please fully read this auction before bidding as you should know what you are bidding on and if you win the auction, it's yours. It costs too much to list on eBay and not have a sale go through, so please review this fully and bid accordingly.
I have intentionally not performed the annual bodywork that I usually do after a harsh Northeast Pa winter, so nothing is hidden here. It's an old scout. There's some rust. However, for the northeastern USA, and given that it's an International, it is still a solid platform. There's also some good sheet metal on this truck. All modifications here were done in the past 5 years and within10,000 miles. Way too much money was spent, and the list of what was done would take volumes. An Excide spiral cell battery has been installed. Originally a 258 inline 6 cylinder truck, it has been professionally converted to a Chevy 350 4 barrel, which currently has about 45,000 miles on it and runs great. If it sits for weeks, then started, there is sometimes a light puff if oil smoke from slight valve seal leakage. After that, it's clean. At some point someone welded engine mounts to the frame up front. They were ground off when the current engine was installed. The current engine front mounts (using the old '57 chevy type mount holes) are built heavily into the new cross member which bolts on to the steering box mount holes on both sides. Scouts had matching holes on the left for postal trucks with right hand drive. That cross member was cnc machined from 1/4 thick, 2x3 inch box tubing and TIG welded to fit perfectly, center the engine, and keep the carb pad level. The drive train is very clean! A new fuel pump, 3/4 in dia shaft water pump (corvette type), high volume oil pump, oil pan, all new engine seals including rear main seal, double roller timing chain, Pertronics ignition, rebuilt 1968 vette Quadrajet carb, dual belt pulleys were installed . Racor marine remote fuel filter with clear bowl and low point drain. It has the original Warner Gear T-18 4spd (non synchro 1st gear), and Dana 20 all-gear transfer case. $700 worth of Tom Woods custom drive shafts spin the original Dana 44 and Dana 30 axles with 3.73:1 gears and a rear Dana trac-loc limited slip. Due to pinion angles the front d/s vibrates at anything but slow speeds. Otherwise, highway speeds are good due to the rear double cardan cv drive shaft and angle shims at the spring perches. The front driveshaft is a long-spline type for the shackle-reverse to work, and the universal joints are Tom's super strong, "super-flex" type. This setup could be fine for off road crawling, which this truck never saw while I had it. I built it for snow.
It has rebuilt factory Warn hubs. New rear axle bearings and seals. Newer brakes all around, fronts are disc . New flywheel, McCloud clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and transfer case yoke seals. OEM manufacturer Triangle 4 inch lift springs. Custom shackle reverse up front. Truck leans to the left sometimes about an inch, I don't know why. Custom 3/16 wall 4-in box tube rear bumper. Front bumper shown is not currently attached. It needs welding, or drilling and bolting. Factory gas tank skid plate. Newer tailpipe, leaky muffler. Rebuilt master cylinder and power brake booster. Factory gauges do not work (as usual.) No radio.
Bolt-on sheet metal was pulled off of an assortment of 5 scouts in bone yards. Everything I got that way has it's share of surface rust spots here and there but nothing major. SEE PHOTOS. None are perfect, just a good foundation. The best pieces are the hood, doors, windshield frame, travel top, and the front fenders are pretty good too. The rear quarters are rough, but I fix them every year so they don't look bad when I'm done. Frame is solid front to back. Doors lock, but when locked the drivers door still opens. Front inner fenders are not too good, especially the left side where the battery was (shot.) The rockers are finally going, but they still support the floors well and the tub seems tight and strong. Show bar inside. Uncut original metal dash panel. Very nice original dash pad. Original buckets and console. Console top cracked. Upholstery kind of shot. New window felts. Aftermarket gauges in photos will not be going with vehicle.
Custom spare tire mount for the big tires. Tires are 34x12.50x15 TRXUS M/T's. The spare is actually brand new. I bought all 5 on new mountain crawler rims. They still have their Arizona air in them! There are 1/8 thick spacers on the front for the tires to clear the steering. Rancho 9000-series shocks calm the ride, but it's still a little bouncy, just like all old-tech short wheelbase lifts. Custom DOM tubing drag link. Windshield was new a few years ago. The seal leaks sometimes from above. No mirrors. Herculinered the tub a few years back, kind of worn in spots now.
I assume this truck could provide all parts needed to convert your auto trans scout to a standard. Throw the sweet 350 into your buddy's Nova and tear up some pavement. Whatever. Reserve is very low. I want the cash and the space. You win the bid, you bought it. $300 pay pal deposit required within 72 hours of close of auction. Balance of payment in full in cash upon pickup, which must be within 2 weeks. Bring a trailer. I may deliver to you by driving it for $2.00/mile up to 75 miles from my location in Scranton, Pa. I would also deliver for free TO my local Dependable Auto Shipper delivery service (their services are at your cost) upon their approval and a fully cleared check to me for this auction. Once I drop it off there, it's your responsibility.
By winning this auction you hereby hold the seller harmless of any losses, be them financial, physical, health, material, or any other, and understand that the vehicle is a PARTS truck, highly modified, and unfit for use on public roads. Absolutely no guarantee or warranty implied or otherwise. Reserve set at a VERY low $1000.00
Thanks for the advice / opinions!!!
