94 cherokee, 4.0, auto, 4x4. I bought it off a co-worker, it will start and run but it sound like somthing in the transmission is spinning rubbing metal on metal and it will not move when you shift it into gear. I have pulled the inspection cover off the trans, all the fly wheel bolts are good and tight. Iam going to tear into, but wanted to see if anybody might have any idea what it could be.

stripped spline in torque converter/ input shaft on trans.... have seen it very rare same exact symptoms

What does the trans fluid look like? Metal on metal will show itself on the dipstick.
