I just want to double check with you guys that are familiar with the Toyota R150F 5-speed in late model 4runners & tacomas that it should run this loud. I put one in my Isuzu pickup from a 99 4runner in order to run a Toyota drivetrain and it seems way too loud at idle and under load.
The truck has carpet, regular seats, rubber AA engine mounts and a thin plastic dashboard. So there might be more drivetrain noise than usual but it still has mostly a stock setup to it. It's not like I have no floor or anything. The body is however only 3/16" to the trans and the whole drivetrain is lifted quite high with new floor built around it.
I took this trans apart as I was convinced it needed a new input shaft bearing but it looked fine and speced out OK. Maybe I overlooked something?
Should I replace this transmission or is it normally this loud? If this one is damaged do you think it will blow up running it hard on the highway? This is a street driven vehicle I'd like to make a reliable weekend wheeler.

was it that loud before the interior was removed, you might need some sound deading material in between,
edit just read you said you still have carpet,
bump for ya

What kind of shape was the throw out bearing in?

Carpet is thin dollar store stuff, so it's definitely not as good as oem carpet.
However I'm more concerned with how loud it is outside the vehicle at idle. Sounds like an electric drill.
I could care less about the noise, as long as this is normal and doesn't mean it's going to blow up.

Throwout bearing is new. However the noise is only when the clutch pedal is up, when down there is no noise. I'm thinking that means clutch assembly is fine and the trans is making the noise. See video #2.

Did you look at the gears closely when you had it apart? They could be worn or have some damage.
It "shouldn't" make noise, but the fact that it does doesn't necessarily mean its going to fail. They do make a little noise under load normally, but not as much as yours seems to.
FWIW here is my experience with these trannys:
The one in my 4runner makes noise at idle like that. Its got nearly 240k on it and I drive it on 1000+ mile trips and everywhere else. I don't think its ever been rebuilt. It makes me a little nervous, because its not normal to make that noise, but but it doesn't seem to be getting any worse. I know its not the clutch.
The one in my T100 has nearly 270k and has been rebuilt twice. First time at 140k a bearing cage failed (front counter shaft bearing) and I had it fully rebuilt while it was out. Second time (250k?) it started to whine under load and it turned out that the gears were burnt. The input and countershaft were slightly discolored and pitted where they meshed. The tranny output seal had failed and most of the oil ended up in the t-case, so the cause was lack of oil. Fully rebuilt again, including new gears. However, it has never made any noise at idle like the 4runner does.
(*used an OEM seal instead of the aftermarket/rebuild kit one the second time!)
Thanks Erik your insight is very helpful, as usual. I may just leave it be, run some synthetic 75-90, over fill it a tad, and keep an eye on it if it gets any worse sounding or feeling.
There was NO discoloration, pitting, or anything abnormal about the insides of the gearbox when it was apart. It was sparkling clean and every bearing was "hand checked", seemed tight and without any play. The synchros still had great ridges on them and there were no metal particles whatsoever. I even measured all clearances per FSM and they checked out right.

Mine is pretty loud too. I dont think its quite as loud as yours but id say thats do to the carpet etc. Mine has been like this since i got it and ive put around 80k miles on it. Hasnt gotten any louder so im not worried about it
