Since I sold off my red zuk, I bought a 1987 Samurai. I'm going "old school" on it, with some modern stuff.

List of goodies:

1) Brand new CJ front springs on the rear, with my old CJ/YJ kit from AAPOA SR kit.
2) RUF, with Trail Tough missing links
3) Sky spring pads
4) Lock right locker in rear
5) Trail Tough double tough axles in front
6) Trailgear 6.5 transfercase gears
7) Rock4x4 twin stick setup
8) Used calmini C2 from bumper, converted to use LED's.
9) Petroworks wedge/AN fittings/Sidekick power steering box, Summit TC pump, Sprint overdrive pulley
10) TRuX's 31x10.50x15 tires, on summit rims.
11) My old Mastercraft Baja R/S seats. Go to keep the buns safe!

The plan is to put sliders, a new rear bumper, a belly pan, and then drive the heck out of it.

sweet truck, but if I were you, I'd put the locker in front where it'll help you more to go through a mudhole or up a hill. it'll help keep you straight so you don't slide sideways when halfway up a big one. plus it'll help keep the manners nice for onroad. once you get a second locker, then the rear. but you'll have to learn how to drive all over again. everthing you do with your feet or hands has to be gentle to cut down on the violent banging......

glad your back into the zuks. I had more fun in a similarly built sammy than in my "hardcore" big tired sammy. I miss that little zuk.

I'll be fine with the locker in the rear, I don't like mud at all, and I get to choose if I want to drive in snow/ice around here (ie, Ihave to drive 150 miles to find it..)

I plan to have fun - lots of fun stuff to do around here with a moderate rig (ie, run over the econazis in Berzekely.. :D )

I prefer if you're going to run one locker, put it in the front as well. dave cole said it best, "If I run claw hammer with only a rear locker I can't make it, with a front locker I have no trouble."

regardless how you roll, I've been trying to kick my 18yr kid out of the house so I can free up a parking spot around the house so I can take a stock looking sammi and virtual lift 35s onto it with dual lock-rites, links and airshocks. Nothing but obscure ability. :smokin:

That's funny.. Because the tires on it where from 1990, and they had badly dry rotted. Plus, 3 different brands.. One is a 'Parker' tire, I never heard of that one!

How bad?

I had one blow up at 65 on the Interstate!

nah, it's only scary the first couple of times till you get used to it. but I thought it would be something to consider. I liked it in the rear axle cuz it would push me straight when on the gas.

Nice. Think about doing somethingsimilar all of the time. The move to trailer rigs ruined all the fun. I'll be watching.

I picked up a second Sami myself, only mods to it (so far, but it's a short list), are SPOA with 3" lift springs 9rethink the lift springs, those things are STIFF), crossover steering, 33's, rear locker and a Weber. I really forgot how much fun wheeling a semi-stock sami was.

Dang, its huge compared to mine on 30" tires. :flipoff2:

When we going to do some old school wheeling? Let me know the next time you are down this way. We can put together another Calico run. I don't think you have been there yet..? Maybe scwafish will get off his butt and join us in the fun. :grinpimp:

Yea, I was shocked to see how high off the ground it is. I feel like it's on 35's & YJ's, just like the old one..

I'd love to do Calico, Death Valley area... But I need to get it finished first!

Scwafish is a web wheeler, so I'd be careful with him! :D

Yeah, he has been for a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time now. :)

Death Valley season is now past until about October or so. I've been out there in the hot.. No thanks.

Yea, but at the rate I'm moving on this, Late October and into November is the time frame I'm looking at..

Otherwise, I'm going up to Hwy4, and do slickrock and the nameofthetrail that goes from hwy4 to hwy 88..

I have an impatient 16 year old on my team...maybe well catch up. Hopefully I can remember how to use the blue Miller thing-a-mah-jig sitting in my garage.

That's Deer Valley trail.

And I've gone back to retro-wheeling too. My new Sami is on 31's SPUA with 3" springs and 2" body lift and lots of armor. So much damn fun to 'wheel when you actually have to pay attention to the trail and pick a good line. :smokin:

Next weekend there'll be 4 of us in old-school Samurai's doing the Squaw Ridge (Pardoe's) Trail off of 88 near Kirkwood, in case anyone wants to meet up.
