: Which setup is better?

I'm looking into some things for my cruiser. It is my daily driver and I want it to be as reliable as possible.

I'm thinking of going with a LT1 or a Vortec with the new Edelbrock Fuel Injection system...you know, the one with the computer inside your cab where you can adjust the FI. Which do you guys recommend? Also, mated to that will be an NV4500, and a minitruck t-case with minitruck rear axle. I plan on doing a 4 inch lift with 35's. Probably a little shackle lift too. I wanna get a set of 35 inch Goodyear MT/R's but I'm a little worried about my gearing. Will I be safe with 4.11's or should I get 4.56's or 4.88's? As expensive as it sounds, I wanna keep it as cheap as possible. This won't happen probably for about another year, but I wanna have everything planned out properly before I do anything. I'm open to any suggestions, but the bottom line is reliability, and the best gas mileage as possible(2 barrel FI system). at least 10 mpg :) haha.

Also...does anyone have a 2 barrel carb for a V8 they don't need? One that doesn't need a rebuild?

Why would you go with a LT-1 or a Vortec and then put an Elelbrock FI on it?

If you want the Edelbrock FI, just rebuild your engine and slap it on.

As for adjusting it in the cab...hell the computer on an LT-1 does that for you so once you get it hooked up, you forget about it.

Yer wasting a lot of money on that FI system unless you are starting with a NON-injection motor.

A mild 350 outta net you 10mpg easy....all depends on how bit your boots are tho...

With the 350 and the added power, 4.11 gears outta be fine. I survive fine with 38's and my worn/tired/beaten 350....once I drop in the TBI this fall, it outta liven it up a bit.

I will second what Nolen said with a bit more force. You would be a fool to replace the injection system on either an LT-1 or a Vortec with an aftermarket unit. You will never be able to get the aftermarket unit to perform as well as the OEM. Nolen and I could have a pleasant argument over the pros and cons of the LT-1 versus the Vortec in a Cruiser. Both are fantastic engines. I am a Vortec fan (currently installing my third) primarily because most Cruiser drivers (Rollin' Nolen perhaps excluded:D) don't spend much time driving near the peak of the LT-1 power band.

With an NV4500 and either engine, 4.11 gears will work just fine.

Something to think about, the LT-1 does not have provisions for a radiator fan and it has reverse flow cooling. Go Votech or build yours up.

Debating an LT-1 with a Vortec for a Cruiser is like debating a 15" penis with a 14" penis with your plastic surgeon...You'll never use the last several inches anyway:D :D Both motors are excellent and more than enough for a Cruiser assuming you'll be crawling not drag racing. Go with the one you get the best deal on...
...And ditto on everything else..

comeon now cruise,, if your going with an LT1 or vortec the stock GM fuel management system is simply the best most reliable you can get. even if you had a laptop in your lap driving the aftermarket manual FI you couldnt do a better job of on-the-fly adjusting.

Let me stop laughing long enough to type... Ok, you are absolutely right, DM. I wish I was smart enough to have put it that way in my original post.

I'll probably just go with either a crate motor or a rebuild with the edelbrock system. Thanks
