Tearing down the 44 and I cannot get this snap ring off for the life of me. It is the diameter of the hub. I found the seperation but there are no little holes to grab onto or anything like most rings. I have articles on teardown as well as a haynes manual and of course they all skip right over this ring and just say "remove" it. Any tips?

I've used a mini flat screw driver in the past to dived and then grabbed the close end with a small needle nose plier

Get set of picks and use them or find an unloved, small flat head screwdriver and bend the tip so that it looks like a little scoop.
Check out Mr. N's D44 site, he has detailed teardown instructions with pictures on there for ya.
