it was about 3 or 4 in the afternoon when i discovered why you don't use a 220 stick welder in the rain, while laying in a puddle, and i'm pretty sure it rained for quite sometime after that, actually i think i was trying middle rockgarden in teh dark in the rain, that really sucked. it was the only time i went last year. we came back and the tent had about 6'' of water in it, and the guy that went with me had been bitching for 3 days straight by that point (we got there earlier in the week), hence the packing up and leaving.

I must be wrong.
I do remember running out of propane on Mason Jar around 4pm and getting towed back to camp. No raincoat in a buggy. I am forgetting the rain staying around for the evening. This may be the same night as the now famous crown royal poker game and the different shoes mentioned above. That would definetly explain the memory loss since I only consume alchohol about 3-4 times per year.

i hate this damn engine and truck, it hits second going across 70 at richmond, and down 69 on my way to attica. i miss my excursion, this thing blows balls. if the trailer brakes were working, i would just take the wife's hemi durango again, it never once kicked off of cruise doing 80 the whole way last year, and still almost got 11 mpg, this pile doesn't let a gas station pass it by when pulling. see ya there.

Count me in. along with 5 others. cant wait. we will be there sometime thursday afternoon. I do have a few questions on some trails. Does anyone know if "your turn" is open? how about "under estimated"? is it a decent trail that is somewhat passable in a built rig on 38s? or if anyone knows anything about the trail profanity, frankenstein, grapevine, or shameless speak up. our group has ran lions den, mason jar, all the rock gardens, lower damnation, and can opener. I am wanting to check out some new trails and wanted to hear some opinions on the ones i am not farmiliar with. thanks

Underestimated and your turn is open. doubt you will have sucess on underestimated and maybe not your turn. some of the meanest trails here.
you will not have any problems on frankenstein, profanity will be fun, grapevine had some work on it so Im not sure.
you can also run the trail past lower rockgarden again. the that ties right into lower profanity.

That's a good fun trail. Not that hard but its that fun rock crawling style of trail. Grapevine isn't to bad We ran it 2 weekends ago in the rain. Big Perm is really nasty at the top when wet now. That root is a show stopper. The trail leading to Your turn is a great trail with lots of good technical crawling.

We wanted to try the new trail at the end of Crawfords Cry but didn't get over there.

We went about 100-150 yards on lower profanity but 1 rig had some trouble so we ended up just backing down it and running up the the Middle Rock Garden instead.

Trail 12A leads to your turn and underestimated. It is clearly marked on the new maps. The exit to your turn is not nearly as bad as it used to be. A well built rig has a good chance of makeing it out the top now. At the end of August Frank was working on an alternate exit for those who did not want to take the hard line out the top. It should be done by now.

Ive got a 2004 GMC Yukon XL Denali 6.0 liter, and that thing will haul balls with my jeep on it. 80miles and hour 500plus miles to Land Between the Lakes then back. Loaded down 4k worth of weight.

You might have something else wrong with it. Or it could be you dont have the XL model to help distribute the weight.

its an xl, just had the whole thing gone through last week before we left. it pulled as bad as i expected, it held 70-75 on lots of hills, slowed to 55 on lots of em too. my jeeps a heavy bitch.

thanks to doc and mark for letting us stay there, had a blast this weekend, didn't get to run a whole lot of stuff, mostly just trailrode and watched all weekend. i ripped the wires out of my CPS on friday morning somehow, and busted an upper link, then later in the day i found a ujoint capped was about ready to pop, i really wasn't wanting ot lay in the mud and fix it, so i just rode teh rest of the weekend. still had a good time, even when my damn orbital mount lost all of it's damned bolts and dropped teh orbitall off the steering shaft and i about ran off the trail (would not have been pretty).
my brother went with me too, it was his first time ever wheeling, he loved it. god i love that place, just wish it would have dried out.

KyYota
10-26-2009, 09:18 AM
Everything was muddy. Was down there the weekend of sept 12th while it was raining and it wasn't as muddy as it was this past weekend.

I didn't run to much of the hard stuff as I didn't have a dedicated running partner. Managed to hit most of the stuff on the lower end of the park. Ran Lower Damnation yesterday morning. It was easy on the 12th, I went up and never slipped a tire. Yesterday was as bad as I've ever seen it. Bashed almost to the top of the 1st ledge, caught a rock and broke a valve stem off, tried to roll it on out with winch help on the Staun, popped the Staun which shreaded it. Rolled it on a flat to just below lower rock garden and brought the trailer to it. meh...shit happens. Rock rings and OBA are in the buggy's future.

Thanks for the weekend, good times. Can't wait to get back down there. Congrat's to Buzzer for the trailer win!

Also wanted to mention that the work done in the park has really helped. I've never seen the water coming down the main trail so clean. The water diversion projects have paid off in both cleaning things up, and keeping some trails open. Thanks to TrailKeepers and the KYMC for seeing those projects through.

We had a blast last year, except for the rain on Friday... We planned on going this year but none of us got our junk ready. 120 hours and $4000 later, I still wasn't ready. Why I decided to do a solid alxe swap and run 40's a month before the event is beyond me... I'll be ready for the spring for sure.
