I was told that the axles are the same, except for the housings..(?) So does that mean that you can just toss 8lug hubs on or do you need to replace the knuckles-out?
Just wondering because I bought new bearings and crap for the 5lug then decided to do the conversion.. Wanted to know if the bearings were the same..??
Thank.s

Whom ever told you (some Dana 44) 8 lug is the same as (any year Dana 44) 5 lug was wrong.
We need WAY more details on these axles, or lots of pictures.
Year of both axles, and vehicle make OR BOM from both.
Plenty of people on here who know a lot about Dana 44 axles, but your way short on information.

Sorry, lol. The 5lug I have is a ~1978 d44. I was just going to buy the parts for the same year, but 8lug. It is under my '75 F100. I am doing a diesel swap and tossed a d70 under the rear and wanted 8lug in the front as well. Front axle is disk brakes..

I cant remember all the differences but there is plenty of info here about these axles with a little searching. I do know you will need the caliper bracket, the 3/4 ton spindle as the bearings are larger, the dual piston calipers since the single piston wont fit the bracket, and i beleive you may need to swap out the outer stubs.

About the only thing that is the same the guts in the pumpkin and the stub axles and lockouts. Inner axles are different, knuckles/out are different, except stub shafts and lockouts.
Balljoints are the same.
