have a chance to pick one of these up for a front 60. would a 5.7x28 be too small for a self defense pistol? i realize what the intent for the 5.7 round was but am not sure how it would work in close proximity.

Do what? a "front 60?"

If you are getting the 5.7 pistol for $60 I will give you $100 for it.

Edit: Front 60 = Dana 60?

I don't see why not. There are a few PD's that use them.

Unless things have changed lately, a junkyard front 60 is worth $1000-1200 depending on year.

So, if you had $1000-1200 cash in your pocket, is this the gun you would go to the store and buy? If not, pass on the deal, sell the 60 for the top dollar you can get, then go buy what you want.

No. You don't want to buy into the 5.7 market. You'll be looking for ammo that you can't find, worse than trying to find any pistol ammo right now.

Next you'll need a PS90 or an ARFive-seveN upper for your AR15/M4 lower. CASH....you want cash....
