Long time listener, first time caller. I searched, but there wasn't much in black and white on these two questions....
Will a full manual valve body manage heat better? (plus one less vacuum line too boot :D )
T/C...what RPM....some say 600-800, others in the 1200 range....heres what I got.
CJ7
400 SBC (mild build...seat of the pants 300 horse)
Th350 (standard "rv" converter, supposedly. Mild shift kit)
205 (nice low range, eh? That would help me out tons)
5.13 Gears
38.5 SXs
We have a rock course over here, and thats where my troubles begin. I will definatley sacrafice other stuff (mud) for better heat management here. All help would be great! ;) Thanks again!

i'd personally go for something in the 1000-1200 range. Especially if you ever plan to add another tcase or lower tcase gears as the low stalls (600-800rpm) seems to make stopping rather difficult as it's right at engine idle for most.

I agree too low a stall and you'll have to fight it when you go to a doubler. Shoot for the 1200 RPM (stock?). The manual body I don't think will have much to do with heat control, other than preventing the tranny from shifting (a wise idea as a loaded up auto shifting from 1st to 2nd sends a hell of a shock).
As far as cooling, 4:1 gearing in the t-case will go miles to helping keep the auto cool as it will not need to work as hard, second would be the deep pan and big cooler. The 4:1 kit will also make your wheeling adventures much more fun when you can crawl other rocks instead of holding the brake and throttle to "crawl" a rock.

If you can find me 4:1 gears for a 205, where do I write the check! Doubler is out of the question. :flipoff2: ... Rear drive shaft...

Sounds like time for a D300 w 4:1, Atlas 3.8 or 4.3, or wait for the 3:1 205 gears that might be out next year.
You've got to gear that beotch down to keep the auto happy.

Those suggested stall speeds seem low to me...
The stock T/C in my Durango's A500 (aka 727 OD) and TJ's TF999 are both 1800 RPMs.
Unless my memory fails me, those are about the norm for truck/offroad type applications..??..??
Speed freaks are generally in the 2300-2500 area??
Anyone else have a thought?

Stall is all relitive to how much power you have. more power=higher than rated stall, less power=lower than rated stall.
