Just take everything from the knuckles out from a 70s ford Dana 44 & swap to your Bronco axle...

I know some have used a full width from a 78-79. The C's and spring mounts are farther apart, but not so far that it won't bolt together. Tie rod and trac bar may need some work, and the tires won't be under the fenders unless you use a rim with lots of offset.

If your axle is original it's a Dana 30, with kingpins. The disk brake D44's were balljoint, so you can't swap knuckles. The chevy spindle and backing plate swap will work on a D30.

72-76 1/2 ton or Blazer. Here's a write up with NAPA part numbers.

LATE 72 -76 spindles

I looked for spindles at a junkyard, all they had was a 72, so I gave it a shot, but it ended up being the wrong spindle. The inner bearing is larger and won't work with the Ford rotor. I bought new spindles, the backing plates I got worked.

Do not use this advice! :shaking:

You can not swap a Ball joint Dana 44 knuckle to your Open King pin Dana 30 knuckle.

I do not suggest swapping disk on the a Dana 30 unless it's a 95%+ street vehicle.
Heck just this weekend I help pull a Dana 30 for an EB Dana 44, and we added chevy disk brakes.

I agree to a point...the 30 is pretty much useless if doing any trails that are difficult at all. However, doing the chevy disc brake conversion on the 30 is not a complete waste as everything can be taking from the EB 30 and installed on an EB drum brake 44 later if he decides a 44 is needed...considering it only changes spindles out. That and a drum brake 44 can be found extremely easy for $100.

There is 1 option besides another 66-77 Bronco front axle. But it still requires modification. depending on your skills it might be a easy or it might be hard. But late '70's F150 and '78/9 Bronco are very close. You just need to remove ~6" from the passenger side axle tube. But they are typically high pinion, great for lifted rigs with lowered bumpstops. But without much lift and/or getting near stock compression out of the front you will have issues with the pinion and driveshaft stuffing into oil pan, exhaust, etc. That is the closest non-EB front axle that will fit.

Josh, hope there are not hard feelings, it was an easy mistake.
I make them all the time, thus why i have to write stuff down.

Good point.

I'm a hug fan of people using 71-75 front Dana 44's. Who wants those axles anymore....

All I know of is the high pinion versions. But didn't want to claim that they were ALL that way. There is usually an exception somewhere. I guess not in this case.

I stand corrected.

I will be on the lookout for that stock low pinion F150 front axle so I can collect your $20. I don't think I will have much luck though.
