: Pistol or plinker?
necronomikon 07-13-2009, 01:02 PM I'm at a crossroads on which new toy I should get first. The price will come out close to the same, which is why it's a toss-up. My choices are the Ruger SR9 or a GSG-5. I normally carry my tomcat as my CCW, but I am looking to upgrade to the 9mm, but I would like something a little cheaper than the AR for some range fun. I went to my local shop today and hand fawked both pieces for about half an hour, but I still can't decide which to get first. Help nudge me me one way or the other. Which will I enjoy more/get more use out of?
4runner 07-13-2009, 01:39 PM buy the pistol...wait a little while and the GSG5 price will drop by about a hundy...they are catching up on orders and there are other RF toys hitting the market now.
Rat~Man 07-13-2009, 01:59 PM SR9 first. Like 4runner tells ya, the GSG is going to come down here in a little bit.
TNToy 07-13-2009, 02:24 PM Buy a pistol first, but carry the smallest gun you'd WANT have on-hand if you were guaraunteed to get into a fight. I dislike mouseguns, simply because they suck to shoot fast, load fast, or do ANYTHING fast with.
Why would you carry that unless there was absolutely no alternative besides being unarmed? You clearly indicate that you carry a bitchgun, even when a larger caliber could be taken with you. Screw the plinker. It's not nearly as likely to save your life. Buy that bigger-bore handgun first.
Ben Segrest 07-13-2009, 03:44 PM A conversion kit for your ar would let you plink while getting trigger time on that gun. I don't own an MP5 so I would get a dedicated upper or one of the new 22 ar's before I got a gsg-5.

That actually isn't a bad idea. I'll look into some .22 conversion kits.

The "bitchgun" was a gift when I turned 21. It served it's purpose, and now I'm looking at an upgrade. The only firearm I personally bought, was my AR. I'm not a very big guy, so I can't go around carrying a desert eagle as my CCW.
4runner 07-13-2009, 07:12 PM where you located?
come shoot with us in AUG, I KNOW there will be several GSG5's there for you to test out.

And quite a few AR conversion kits as well

If I was anywhere near you I would. Just a couple of states away though (augusta GA). This place sucks for being able to try new stuff.

I've driven from here to Augusta for a weekend. I think it took about 12 hours. Google says it's only 17 hours from you to Lawton.
Blue Chip 07-14-2009, 06:14 AM Find the pistol used if possible and take any potential savings and put it into a .22 conversion kit.
I rarely shoot.223 through the AR anymore.

Hell, I damn near disappear when I turn sideways. Ask krwrangln, or watch one of my videos.
I'm 6'0" and 155 lbs. Hiding a Glock 19 under a *tucked in* polo shirt isn't very hard if you spend a little on a good holster and belt. Don't like Glock? Fine, pick another compact-frame autoloader that size. Sig P239, HK P2000sk, Smith M&P compact, etc. Under an untucked T-shirt they hide great.
Mouseguns have their place: If you work in a buisness-causal-or-nicer environment, and getting caught means losing your job, then pocket carry is the way to go. Otherwise buy a real gun, and carry the mousegun when you HAVE to, not all the time because it's more comfortable or because "you're small". I like to carry the highest number of rounds I can reasonably conceal under whatever I'm wearing. I brought 31 rounds of 9mm with me to chruch on Sunday.
Oh, and if you don't actually like Glock, that's not really fine. But I have to pretend it is, so that you'll maybe listen to me a little. :D :D :D

I like my Colt Defender. Small package w/a big bang. Not a big fan of plastic.

Yuo need some target practice. 26 rounds in church ought to be plenty...but I've never churched in Memphis. :flipoff2:
MikeW 07-15-2009, 06:40 PM Buy a .45 or 9mm that has a .22 conversion kit for it. Cost Effective!:smokin:
