Thanks 'Custom' was trim package available in those years, actually lack of. Custom was the bottom of the line and may contain a heater, radio delete, no chrome and vinyl seat. Options could be added ala carte. Other trim packages available, in order of simplest to most elaborate, were Explorer, Ranger, Ranger XLT and Ranger XLT Lariat. I don't think you could get an F-150 without one of these badges.
