I know it's newb material but after searching I'm not finding an answer to my question. I just purchased a '88 Bronco with the 302 and AOD. The AOD is puking like nobody's business and I'm torn between rebuilding or putting in a C6. I've got a lead on a C6 out of an '86 Bronco but it was bolted to a 351, will it bolt to the 302? I'm going to be doing a 203/205 doubler so I'm assuming the C6 is better for that given the age issue. Am I way off base? This will be a trail only rig running rocks and 44" swampers. Flame if you must.

Well since after more research I'm convinced the c6 is the way to go, how can I tell if this trans will work if the owner doesn't know if it was a 351m or 351w? Any obvious visual differences?

I also just read how someone killed an AOD using the wrong flexplate and it was leaking out of the bell housing, sounds exactly what mine is doing (leaking). When I pull the trans what markings on the flexplate should I look for to verify it's right or wrong for the c6?

Thanks again.

the 351m thermostat sticks up out of the engine block and the 351w comes out of the intake

The top 2 bell hosing bolts on the M should measure 7 3/4" apart center to center. Small blocks should be less I just don't have one to measure for ya.

Thank you. That's exactly what I was looking for. I'll try to go look at it this week.
