I just got done e-mailing Roy from propane guy.com (http://www.propaneguy.com/) and this is what he told me...
"good propane carb for a small block would be a 450 ohg, good performance ,easy to work on...i sell a rebuilt front ohg kit for $318.00us, everything but the propane tank with fill assembly ,and #6 service hose....roy"
"dont worry about the harden seats ,if you have a problem later with valves then when you have it apart then do the seats(if not harden seats)lots of propane engines running around without...hp decrease,,, well with propane you can run compression up to 14 to 1(normal 10,12 to 1)high compression more hp...now with a stock engine you loose 10% max but ive got lots of tricks to help performance, as for tune plugs one colder than stock, good hi tension wires, hi performance ignition coil thermostat changed to 180 from 195, make sure distributor is in good condition, connect vacuum advance to manifold vacuum at idle, crankshaft timing at 10 to 12 degrees...ive still got more, we will make those boys eat there words...roy....ps we race with propane cars here!!!!"
So it sounds good to go to me. here are my questions.
The motor in question is a AMC 360
i can get all the stuff for propane for (-the tank) 50-60 bucks. then i would need a tank and some hose done.
i can get a GM TBI and ECU for 75 bucks then i need a new gas tank and the rest of the stuff to hook it up (sensors try to get the wiring harness (painless $250) working...etc)
what way should i go? propane is not too hard to find around here i know of one station right by my house. but i also drive my jeep to the trail. so how accessible is propane in Okla. and surrounding states?
