What tire pressure should I run on the road?

Currently running 33 x 13.5 x 15 Maxxis Mudzillas at 28psi?

Cheers,

Chris

I use the chalk method. Get some kids' sidewalk chalk (the fat one), and draw a line, from side-to-side, on each tire. A large parking lot works well for this. Of course, you also need access to compressed air!

Drive a short distance (500 feet, or so). Stop, get out and check each tire.

If the line is missing at the inside and outside edges of the tire, the tire pressure is too low.

If the line is missing in the center, the pressure is too high.

You have to repeat this method until the line wears evenly, all the way across the tire.

It helps if your tires are in good shape to begin with.

Personally, I think the chalk method or something similar is best. However, depending on your wheel width I wouldn't rely on this alone. I would think you should be running those at 32-35. I would think 28 is too soft and will cause poor handling (worse than usual for a Jeep anyway).

A large factor depends on vehicle weight. My jeep only weighs about 1800 lbs., so I run about 26-28 lbs./tire.

I run 25psi in my 35s. However, I am going to try out the chalk method this weekend and see what they look like.

I always ran 25 PSI with good results on radials and 3 PSI on my bias IROKs with beadlocks (I was lazy and it only got used for wheeling, if I drove it alot I blew it up to 10 PSI). Seemed to wear well, ride well and grip well. Doing the chalk trick

Like was already said...chalk method is the best. A lot of different factors involved here, tire width vs rim size, tire make, vehicle weight...

25psi seems to be about right for my 36" biasply TSLs, it was about the same running 33" TSL radials. (both 12" wide on a 8" rim)

LeadfootCJ7, 32-35 lbs? Holy shit dude, are you serious?
