I drive a fullsize chevy right now, but am wanting soemthing a lil smaller to fit down the tighter trails. I plan on getting a samurai...

I did a search and didn't find a definate answer so I'll post.

I can get a 3.8L Supercharged engine from a FWD car, and I would like to install it in a zook. Has anyone figured out an auto transmission that works with this engine?

Thanks for your help,
-Ryan

Buick? Ford? What's this 3.8L coming out of?

If it's a Buick, or GM, Advance Adapters sell several transmission adapters. They make one to adapt a Toyota trans to the 3.8L. 3.8+Toy trans+dual cases=:grinpimp:

I'm pretty sure the 3.8L Ford shares the same bolt pattern as the 5.0L, so you could use a C4 w/the shorter V8 tailshaft.

Check around some of the rail buggy sites, they're doing a lot of late model turbo and supercharged V6 swaps, they can help ya with computer info.

I may be wrong, but I am sure the FWD 3.8L has a unique bellhousing that won't fit many transmissions out there. Check into it first. I was told a RWD trans for that motor is hard to get.

A RWD tranny for the 3.8 should be the Metric 200R (basically a little brother to the 700R4). Not sure if the FWD and the RWD bellhousing pattern is the same, though.

If I can find out for sure, I will post it and the info I found about it here in case anyone else is interested.

Thanks Again!

your fwd 3.8 bellhousing pattern is totally different from the standard rwd bop pattern. The fwd shares the same bellhousing pattern as the smaller 2.8 v6.

hope this helps

Yep, i confirmed it with someone who swapped a SC3.8L (vin 1) into a jeep buggy. He used a 2.8 S-10 case, with 700R4 internals. He said it bolts up, but the s-10 converter needs 1/4" spacers on the 3 TC bolts.

Now I am researching a T-case to use behind the "s-10" trans. Is the Tcase pattern in the s-10s the same as the fullsize chevys? (guess i should ask that question in Chevy Talk eh?)

Thanks,
Ryan

What did you do about the intake?

I have a 3.8L FWD engine from an '88 Bonneville. The problems I see is the intake would go right through the firewall...

I havent actually done it yet. Likely I will do something similar to a cold air setup, just route it like a snorkel or to a dry place. Obviously cutting and welding sheetmetal will be part of the procedure.

Has anyone looked to see if the FWD transmission can be modified to become a "short" RWD trans.......make an output after the transmission part where it transfers down to the internal drive shaft that goes to the diff.

I have been thinking about doing this to a Celica GT motor and trans...except I want to couple the automatic to a toyota manual transmission and case.
