i decided to do a buggy leaf in the rear, i used extra rear leaf that i had from a parts samurai.

i used the stock bump stop as a mount for the extra leaf.( still have to weld some trusses on it and drill two holes in the leaf to mount it to the flat stock so dont tell me its weak right now, i know it is) i also need to weld the rear contact point and put some flat stock on there so i can clap the upper leaf so i can drive around town.

but here it is i got the left side alomost done in about 1 hour. it gets great flex too compared to before.

May be if you get tired of using these springs you could do the same 3/4 set up on XJ leafs. haha

edit: also, what do you plan on using for shocks?, that pic looks like that shock is fully extended. I know you have more travel than that.

i am going to get some longer doestech shocks. i might have to move the shock mount into my bed.

i bet the xj springs get good travel but i really like how the samurai leafs are soft and short. if i used a yj leaf or xj the leaf spring would stick out 6 inches inthe back and i would loose departure angel

It'd be cool to stretch the wheel base a little bit with the YJs.

If I plan on running YJs, I'd take out a leaf or two, I know the XJ and YJ springs are a tad stiff for Samis.

looks good,we did almost the same exact thing on my brothers sami last year it works well for him just needed an anti wrap bar now he loves it.

i run the xj springs with one leaf removed i like them, once they give me a problem im going to link the rear.

i got pretty bad axle wrap before so i will do a anti wrap bar next week.

Interesting setup. Looks remarkably simple to do as well. Will you be driving this rig on the street at all?

That's commonly called a Buggy or Goofy leaf set up. It works well and I ran that set up for years. You will get some axle wrap, but nothing a trac-bar won't cure.

I made mine so that I could pin them shut for road driving.

yeah i will be driving it on the street but will be clamping or pinning the upper leaf so it drives stock.

i've got the parts, so i think this will be going on "scrat". i will definitely have a full clamp system to keep it disabled when i don't need it. something with a pad to stop all the squeaking and other racket. a truck that sees hunting use can't be noisy.

i am gonna use a flat bumpstop that i got laying around. they will work greatk.

i still need to make a set up to clamp the upper spring for street driving and decide what i am gonna do for shocks. i have some newer 31in shocks and might put them through my bed and make a bed cage set up.

this was the max flex it got before
http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z271/jefftrucker12/DSC00168.jpg

this is after the buggy leaf and i can still flex alittle more

in the pics its hard to see the real difference, but i did get about 4 inches or more in travel maybe more if i flex it right. its not a ton gained but i think thats all you can expect from the stock springs and there short length

here is how i am doing the rear shocks. h need to mount the bottom link with the mounts parallel to the axle because when it flex the busihng get in a bind. also i am getting a new tracker rear axle and swapping it on so i just did a mock up on the bottom mounts for now.

these are 31in procomp shocks that i had laying around.

Nice work on the upper mount! What do you mean the bushings binded?

flex doesnt mean you will go more places...

the way those shocks are mounted to the axle will probably limit the axle travel slightly. It will bind as it drops or compresses. they should be turned 90* IMHO

I agree as well.

Kind of common sense, but to each his own.

if i move one shock end 90 degerees it will solve the problem of binding. thats my plan once i get this tracker axle this weekend

This will work for awhile but the springs will not last long they are not made to twist they will look like crap after a good hard wheeling. I some Buddy's that run the buggy board setup and when they wheel hard they twist up. But as long as they trail ride they last.
