Sources online say both XJ and Durango boxes are different but that doesn't neccessarily mean they won't workwork. Why if you don't mind me asking, are you trying to re-invent the wheel? Just track down a CJ or YJ box and be done with it. Hell I'm sure if you search the classifieds here on the PBB somebody can send you one for almost nothing plus shipping. Then its just brainless plug and play and you have power steering.

I seriously doubt either box will make turning larger tires any easier if thats one of the reasons you are considering using one of these boxes. If this were actually the case everybody and their brother with a CJ/YJ/TJ would be using them instead of rigging up full hydro and hydro assist rams. All the cherokee guys I see have just as much a hard time turning the wheel as the SWB jeep guys. If they are plentiful and cheap go for it.

the waggy box is the cheap junk yard solution.

I am also considering the waggy box swap on my cj for the variable rate steering. What would make one box steer easier than the other is the ratio. Just have to watch the splines on the steering shaft or grab the lower half of the doner steering shaft from the rag joint down.

just make sure that what you get at the junkyard will work for you, I bought a early YJ pump and box from another member and was told that it would work I'd just need to swap the pulley..... nope. Evidently 94 and 95 YJs had a different pump all together with external reservoir. I got what I needed from a different member and it works great.

i know i have to grab the steer shafts but would the waggy have 4 or 3 mounting bolts the xj is 3 would that matter?
