: pics from rubicon over the week
nolan 07-16-2009, 04:49 PM i was able to run the trail on the 12th,13th,and14th of july.i ran into lots of people i know and knew a few rigs by pics.the trail was in good shape in my theory,no trash or waste piles left in what was visible to me.other than that it was a good clean trip with few problems, only counted about 2 dozen rigs, and didnt suffer any shady weather.we had a jeep snap a front drive shaft.my tranny mount bolts fell out and a bronco broke a axle joint.here are some pics to share.http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/91/l_4c51ddc9b547449d9955f6d16318f7a4.jpg

Granite Babe 07-17-2009, 02:47 PM I think we passed your group on our way out on the 12th. We were camped at Buck the 10th-12th.
We got rained on pretty good Saturday night for a few hours - some tents got flooded and had wet sleeping bags etc. Once it stopped we did a night ride into the springs. It was nice having no dust! Trails and camp areas were clean from what I saw other than some minimal TP at Ellis.
Yota Up 07-17-2009, 03:10 PM Love your truck, Mike. Looks like an awesome footprint, and nice and low, too. Right on.
Any lightning with the rain?
Granite Babe 07-17-2009, 03:29 PM Any lightning with the rain?
No lighting. I heard coyotees up there for the first time though. I'm used to them at home in Vacaville but never heard them up there. They had all the dogs in our camp set off.

Thanks! The truck posted above actually belongs to me...
No lightning just a few showers through the nite and that was all...
Funny, in the countless times I've been up there I had never been rained on. Luckily I had at least an extra tarp to keep my seats dry. :D
phat06 07-17-2009, 04:44 PM we did a day trip july 11th i think we saw a few of you guys
GETTINTHERETOY 07-17-2009, 05:04 PM Past a few of you guys last weekend. Here is copy and paste of a write up and some pictures I threw up on Davez website...........
Cool pics guys. I love reading trip reports. Here is mine for this last weekend.
A good buddy of mine and myself managed to get a weekend off for a quick 'con trip. Headed up from Modesto at 5 pm Friday evening. Made a quick dinner stop at In and Out in Pville and made it to the spill way at Loon by about 8:30pm.
Had a great trip in and made it into our camp at Buck Island by 12:30pm. Very little trail traffic, but Buck was a little crowded. We ended up camping just past where the slab trail and the old sluice meet up at the bottom.
Saturday the plan was to hike into Rockbound lake and do a little trout fishing. We hiked down the trail, towards where the trail heads past Buck down into the beginning of Big Sluice. Sorta where the saddle in the ridge is and headed up towards the inlet of Buck Island. Fricking awesome once we side hilled over the granite to find the creek that spills into the lake. Beautiful waterfalls and perfect trout holding pools of clear water. My buddy caught the first couple little guys and threw them back. At first I was having little luck, so I walked up the creek a bit to what became my little honey hole. Every other cast I was catching pan sized trout. The bite finally slowed down and we worked our way up stream towards Rockbound. Didn't have much luck at the lake once we got there. So we decided to go for a swim. The water was a tad bit chilly but bearable. Felt good to wash off some of the trail dust.
After our swim and on the way back the clouds began to roll in. We made it back into our camp as it began to sprinkle. Just enought time to water proof our camp and start dinner before it started to rain. Never even started the rigs all day! That was a first for me on a con trip.
Sunday am we loaded up and headed out up the big sluice. We took our time and took advantage of the light trail traffic to finally snap some pictures.
Shot of a cool camp spot overlooking Buck from the Old Sluice.
(we picked up the garbage bags in the fore ground that someone had left behind)

You guys weren't that far from us. I recognize the Flatty. We were camped right across the from the dam under the rock with the writing on it. We had a white flatty. I'd never camped at Buck before - we always stay at Spider - and I have to say I like Spider much better. I think the biggest fish caught in Buck that day was 3" long!

Thanks to the Blue Bronco who welded the steering arm to the new knuckle, and the Jeep who re-welded it at the slabs! Steve more than appreciated it! (aka Ssicoffroad) :D

Hey, Someone had to try out my Bronco's new welder. Thanks again for the tri-tip, it was some good stuff. Much better than the hot dogs we had planned for that night.
