Does any one have a D44 8 lug chevy hub they could part with.

Im having trouble finding one that isnt gold plated in the Sacramento area.

Im trying to get ready for the last CalROCS event at the end of the month, and wouldnt you know it, the only Chevy parts Im running on the rig is fawked up (just kidding):flipoff2: , the 14 bolt is doing just fine.

The splines are nearly stripped out on my driver side hub, (the power of the 5.0 HO might have been too much for it):D

Anyway, I could really use the help if anyone in the area has one they will sell. (and I promise to speak kindly of Chevy's from the winners podium. :)

Thanks,
Jeff

For some reason I thought the gm 10bolt knuckles and D44 were the same. If the knuckels are the same you could just grab some 10bolt stuffs. That should make finding parts a LOT easier, "if".

That could be so, since the 10 bolt uses the spindles with the larger diameter bearings and races.
Did the 3/4 ton Chevy trucks, come with 8 lug 10 bolt axles?
If it will fit and someone has one available, that would be great!

yes, the 10 bolt and 44 8 lug hubs are the same.

Im running the run of the mill 19 spline outers.
I already have all of my axle shaft assemblies and my spares set up with Warn high strength shafts and CTM joints, so converting at this point would not really be an option, both in terms of time or cash.
I need to have it for the competition on Sept, 28/29, so I could recieve it as late as Thursday Sept 26th.
All of my bearing, races, studs, and rotors are in good shape, so all I really need is one hub, (even in bad shape). I could replace the seals , and races, and install it the night before the event if I had too,....but i sure dont want to be waiting untill the late. Sending just the hub would be affordable, even sent overnight UPS if I have too.
Worst case scenario, I will weld the drive slug to the old hub, but that would make a repair nearly impossible durring the course of the event(45 minute time limit), if I snapped a shaft or joint.

They are asking $200 to $250 a pair for junkyard versions out here,...if you can even find them.
NAPA can order a new Hub and rotor assembly, within a couple of days, but they want $240 a side, and thats supposedly my jobber price that give me, as one of my sponsors.
I really dont have the cash to spend $250 on a hub, along with all of the other incidentals that add up in the weeks before a competition.

Id also be glad to run anyones logo stickers, as appreciation for any help,(and we have been getting a lot of print and internet exposure lately).

Lemme know if you can help.
Thanks,

I have one spare out at my property, the rest I would like to keep with the axles they are attached to. I wonder if the older external style with drive flanges might be better for your application, no internal splines to strip, and as long as you use studs, and keep all the nuts tight, I don't think you could shear all six 1/2" bolts. I've got a pair of that style, with drive flanges.

Hows $20 plus shipping from Michigan for the internal, or $50 plus shipping for the pair of external with flanges sound? On one condition, you have to post that Ox lockers are cool and 4Bangler's tech is so good it makes you feel small in the pants. Ha!

As much as I would LOVE to tell you to search, not much has been covered on these. The earlier Chevy 44's used a HUGE spicer lockout with six (or eight can't remember right now) 1/2" bolts securing the lockout to the hub, modern replacements for these hubs look similar to Jeep external hubs, but much larger. The full time slugs for these axles are a flat plate with a spline broaced in the center, are held down by bolts, and have a small metal cap that snaps over the end of the axle shaft, they look similar to a 14-bolt hub. Most people assume that these hubs will fail similar to Jeep external hubs and never give them a second thought, but if studs are used, and good locking nuts, and they are kept tight, I doubt anyone could shear six 1/2" bolts on a hub (they may even be bigger bolts, I can't remember)

Either way, if you need hubs, I can get you some from my stock this weekend while I'm home. I won't even make you eat crow for them, I was just kidding.

Do some research on the externals for Dana 44's, they might be a solution to your hub stripping problem, and I think they make joint replacement quicker, no pesky inner snap ring to deal with.

BTW, here's a pic of the external slugs. I carry these as backups for my Warns. There are a lot of times though, that I just put these on before I leave the hosue. Makes life a lot easier :D

Yeah, I run the 3/4 ton brackets.

I think I have the hub problem handled.
A set of them should be going in the mail tomorrow.

Thanks for the help.

I just got a PM confirming that 4 Bangler's girlfriend had put a hub, on the UPS truck today.
Also Aggelier said he would be able to send a set today, so Ive got my fingers crossed, that the planes carrying either one of them dont crash into each other in the air.
I should have one in time for the competition.

Damn I wish I was at home so I could have painted that hub :rainbow: for you, I guess sending it in the Ox-Trax box is rewarding enough

Yeah sending it in the OX box is :rainbow: enough.
Ill bet your girlfriend, had a hell of a time getting the cardboard flaps of the OX box to engage propperly for packaging.:D

Oh boy, well I would have had her send it in my ARB box, but it was too full of greasy smashed up bits of metal, besides, the air operated flaps had a leak in the system and she only had to giggle the Ox box a little for the flaps to close. While it may not be for competition, Ox makes a way better box than ARB :flipoff2:
