How much do they stretch?

My shocks fully extended are 35.5", if I set it up so the limiting strap stops droop at 35", will I be safe or will they stretch more than that?

What color are your straps? The new ones (black) are manufactured over seas. These are the ones that strech, from what I have seen & expierenced.

Good question CJ...I'm about ready to install my straps and I was wondering the same thing...I would guess that Pig's right on the money with the 10% gig. But don't the sway's come in different width's? If so the number will be propotional to the strap width and the unsprung weight right?

I would be a little worried about having the strap go tight with 3.5" of down travel left. You can always change it, but what a pita. I was thinking of multiple (2 or 3) mount's 1" appart.

I think Im gonna have the straps limit the shocks at 34", not taking into account stretching. Im sure the rockwells are heavier than what they were designed for so a little extra protection on a $250 shock can't hurt :P

So true...And man did you score on the price of your shocks!

BTW, are you planning on running the straps on the ends of your axle, or at the CL? I was heading toward just having a V configuration to the CL of the axle, but then I started wondering about how the shock is going to like having to hold back a 1 ton axle and a 42" TSL during full droop. Any oppinions?

The lower mounts on all 4 corners of mine will be the lower shock mount bolt. I'm going to compress one side all the way to the max and then put the drooping side to 34"(1.5" of shock travel left). Then the strap will run to a bracket on the frame Im gonna make, should work well.

I think you want the straps as far out on the axle tubes as possible to minimize stretching. I would only put one in the center if I was worried about binding my driveshaft u-joint.

The shocks themselves I think are $250, once you add the dual rate coils and coil kits they are more like $500.

Sounds like a good plan CJ....Have you considered a strap at the axle CL to limit the unloading effects of ledge climbing and front coil-overs? I was thinking of sticking with the winch cable idea....When you hit the major ledge, crank the winch in a little and suck the nose down. Seems like that would work better than having a CL limiting strap.

BTW, I haven't seen any pic's of your rig since you got the RW's in place...Got any real world testing pics?

No real good pics. Blew a motor up in Tellico when we went for a big trip. Going to Big Dogs on Sept 20 for their big event, should be fun...I'll get some pics. I thought about the CL limit strap for hill climbs and stuff but i think there are so many variables it would be hard to come up with something that works every time, I dunno.
