I really dislike working on carbs.

Anyone have an opinion either way? Pro's and Con's?

I went from a Thermoquad to Holley Projection on my 345 and it is a huge improvement. More power, better mileage, all the good stuff. My first Scout was an 800 with a 196, I swapped a small block Chevy into it shortly after I purchased it. There is a lot of hacking, welding, and general fabrication to make it work, but its not too bad. I rode in a buddy's TPI LT1 CJ7 and it seemed to run very smooth with plenty of power.

Yeah, there was a TON of hacking and crap, but that part is over. I'm picking out heads right now, and I need to make a decision late model, which will fit the TBI intake, or go ahead with the old style and hunt down TPI stuff. I have all the TBI hardware, but was wondering if anyone had any experience.

Thanks!
;)

BTW, which direction did you go with the steering? I'm thinking GM, but havn't decided.

ive played with enough injection, stock and aftermarket, to say that unless you realy want to buck up and go sequential fire injection, tbi will get the job done 99.9% as well as tpi, the advantages dont realy ocur untill higher rpm when a tbi runs outa air..

to switch from a normal (batch fire) tpi to sequential will require ether a latemodel obd2 computer , harnes, etc... or an aftermarket system, you will also need both crank sensors and cam position sensors etc.. the benifit.. beter mpg, lower emisions, and if tuned properly, slightly more torque etc..

me: id run a big block (2" throtle plates) tbi on a stock or aftermarket intake with a set of fastburn heads.. you'll make tons of torque, and not be limited by airflow.

Actually I didnt do much in the way of steering. I left the manual box with a Gryphin Racing tie rod. I was 18 when I did all this, if I had to do it again, I would do what is on my SSII. Scout II D44 with high steer. I havent looked much into power steering on the 800s but the info is out there.

I've gotten my hands on a late model donor vehicle that has the stock GM/TBI stuff, so I think I've got that area covered. (crossing fingers)
