: Newbie to pirate
sonic1313 07-18-2009, 03:21 PM Hello from Atlanta, I was brought up in 75 Scout II. So, I still dig'em. I still have the one my dad bought in 75 and have been in the process of tearing it down and building it up. But recently purchased a 79 Scout with a 304(yuck). BUT it was too good to pass up cuz it came with a D60(chevy no less) front end and cheap. As I was driving it back to Atlanta from South Carolina, I learned why it was cheap. Kinda funny- came to a light outa the country road and it stalled, put it in N and cranked her, put it in drive and BLAM!!! I had no clue what the noise was til I pushed the gas and crazy metal sounds. I pulled over and my chunk was pointing straight up. The 1st thing I thought of was--Why would anyone break and reweld a sprung under, stock D44 3.07. Second thought was 150 miles to go!!! So, I put it in N revved it and popped it into Reverse-Blam!! I got forward progress again. The funny thing is, the girl that drove me up there was not interested in me driving this thang 150 miles with 38.50's and the 2 up front bald. So, I drove it!! And 20 miles down the road--as she put it--"Looks like you had a chain slapping underneath your truck." One less driveshaft I have to worry about. HAHAHA!! So, I drove it the whole way with the front end. Just kidding about that last one.
So, keeping the 75 as my daily and puller. Gonna build the 79!! Already pulled the brains out of it. Thinking about a 392 cuz I got one with the bottom built just need heads. Got the axles out. Putting in there place D60's with 5.13's with Detroits. SOA of course cuz I can't do anything else. Would like to keep it International-so 727 with D20. I know it is what it is but I have never had problems with one and now I have 2. AND I will be taking a lot of weight off this thang as well.
So, when I figure how to attach pics, I'll start in with some progress.

Were you living in the Scout, or did it just the trailer around the park?
sonic1313 07-18-2009, 07:51 PM I guess it "pulled" the trailer around the park...or was it pulled the park around the the trailer. You know how torquey those Scouts can be.
IDScout 07-19-2009, 03:13 AM Not that there's anything wrong with living in YOUR Scout......Temporarily:dustin:

Something to learn here quickly. Proof read and pictures......
I was able to sum things up as I read them.
1# he grew-up with a 75 scout.
2# purchased a 79 scout.
3# it came with a d60/14b seperate and four tires, two that are new.
4# had a d60/d44 under it and were not properly installed right.
5# drove it home...not on a trailor.
6# stop using the word "BUT" to start sentences
7# still no fawking pictures.
His star should be pink.:flipoff2:
