budget76 07-19-2009, 05:31 PM Tore apart the 82 Yota toy in preperation for a frame swap:shaking: Put the soft top on the scout since it got kicked out of the garage, and found out that pressure plate bolts make a loud rattle noise when they come loose inside the SD33 clutch/flywheel opening:laughing:
Urban Wheeler 07-19-2009, 06:15 PM Finished up the tbi swap on a buddies CJ, next weekend I have off we'll get my Scout in his garage and hang some axles.

Reasons in case you were wondering WTF?
1. Tired of looking through the top 1/3 of the glass.
2. Now I have the option of running bottom mount wipers(think cj7)
3. No longer running tailgate so I put it to good use. (that is right, I cut up a NICE tailgate):flipoff2:
scout254 07-19-2009, 08:36 PM Not a damn thing scout related... didn't even go to the Werock event..:shaking:
Roommate finally starting to move out... so I had to deal with that
Spent most of the weekend at the house cleaning :mad3:

Blind Driver 07-19-2009, 08:45 PM Replaced the wheel cylinder in the left rear. Still can't get the air out of the front brakes :shaking:

What did you use for glass? Is that lexan or the stock windshield?
IDScout 07-19-2009, 09:50 PM I do have more pics but I'm so far in the sticks I'm still on 56K and have to hand crank the gen. to power the PC so might be a little slow forthcoming.
Still has the original glass but will have Lexan soon.
IDScout 07-19-2009, 09:58 PM As far as the cage, It was built by Ultimate Offroad locally.

dboy...NICE work on the latches. Better than gate latches I have seen used before. Do you have any pics of the doors mounted?
SSGTWC 07-20-2009, 06:09 AM Finally something Scout related to report this weekend. Brought the scout to Wamego from Phillipsburg. Had to jump start it and as I was letting it warm up, I went over to the right side and saw a shit load of gas spraying all over the dist. I quickly shut the hood, ran to the other side, jumped in and quickly backed off the trailer.
I did realize how tired the 304 really is. I had to load the back up with a shit load of parts. Then when I tried to move out of the back yard, it just wouldn't move. Put into 4L and it crept out.

Edit: Who says you can't haul a Scout II with about 500lbs of parts in the back, on a u-haul auto transport? Over course my top speed was only 55mph, but hell I made it with no problems.
Mechanos 07-20-2009, 07:13 AM Did a bunch of work on my camper to get ready for a river trip later this week. Tore the old coverter out of the camper and installed my new smart charger/converter and a new load center with two 15A circuits. Also finally got around to installing the pair of 6V batteries in the camper.
uglyscout 07-20-2009, 08:07 AM Started Friday afterwork and spent about 25 hours working on my bathroom remodel.... I am freakin' beat. I needed to get back to work to get a break. i did pile more crap on top of and around the Scouts in the garage.
ChestonScout 07-20-2009, 09:00 AM Wheeled a trail called Hanging Tree here in Utah. It is the hardest trail Ive been on in Utah so far! Dang fun! Scout ran hot but no breakage!
Thats 2 weekends in a row wheeling for me. Cant remember the last time I have done that
Harvester of Sorrow 07-20-2009, 03:21 PM I tried to wheel...:(
My tranny was NOT happy for some reason...:(
Friday, tried to get a second tranny cooler installed, but about 9pm realized that was not happing.
Sat. wheeling the strawberry trail Hwy 50 to 88 in northern ca. Nice easy trail with a few tough spots to test out the new tranny transfer case.:smokin: Matt and Jesse also had new 4 to 1in there t/c case too. So it was a transfer case run:flipoff2:
The 3 to 1 was great, big difference over 2 to 1. Put it in 5+ to 1 and that is great for those place you need to go slow and over stuff.
It was like a 110 degrees outside on the way down the mountain, had to close the wing windows as it was like a blast furnace on me and my daughter. Need a swamp cooler for the Scout.
Sunday did some A/C work for $$ and yard work in the 100+ heat.
Matt's Pics, as I left the camera home

Snoopy 07-20-2009, 07:12 PM Went to 'Girls Camp' and help 'encourage' nine 12-17 year olds to keep going on a 5-mile hike. (Wasn't as bad as I expected)
Got Cringer out of paint. Looks pretty good:

Where did you "try" to wheel?...Get the trans figured out?
Harvester of Sorrow 07-20-2009, 08:04 PM Where did you "try" to wheel?...Get the trans figured out?
I worked on the thing up till loading it on the trailer Saturday morning.
Drove over to Naches and the "plan" was to do a day trip out of it for shaking out some stuff on my rig (steering box and some other little things). More so one of my best friends Bronco that he has been working on hasn't been out for almost 3 years...
We started up Kanar Flat at the base of the trail at Quartz and things were going well. My rig was running a little warm but it was also hot out, and I went down in fan size slightly. About somewhere near the big steep switch back section my tranny was getting super fucking hot...and started slipping.
So I kept checking fluid and adding and letting it cool off. It would rock and be nice and tight for a while and then get super fucking hot and start slipping again.
Called it a short "day" at the intersection with road 1901 and headed back down hill to the trucks.
I am at a loss for what is wrong with the thing. The only change I made to the tranny cooler situation was to not run it through the radiator. The fluid coming out of the last stacked plate cooler in front of the radiator was not even hot.
Plan of action is the following:
1. drain fluid (original fluid since rebuild)
2. tig in bung into pan for temp sensor (currently in output of tranny)
3. buy new temp guage as last one pegged out at 300* and broke
4. new diff gears to accomodate 40's and help with tranny slippage needed
I will post photos of my cooler and line routing when I get back into town.

How much fluid did you have to add? I wonder if the o-ring between the transmission and transfer case failed and you have a d-20 full of ATF now?

That is the most common sign of adding fluid and not having any signs of leaks. 300* is way to hot for an auto also, I would look into a fan for the cooler.
No wheelin for me this week or next week :( Got a short video of a run I did a YouTube - rockwell buggy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uG0Igr2T-C0)while back tho :flipoff2:
1tonIHs2 07-20-2009, 10:44 PM Sat: Put 422 miles on my dads yamahog. Never have been on it before my test ride last week. It's a huge change from the sport bikes that I used to ride. Haven't been on a bike in two years so it was kind of a long day.
Sun: Took the kids to the park, thought about working on the scout, thought about working on the bathroom addition, thought about going in to work for a few hours, thought about loading the camper back on the pickup for next wknd........none of which got accomplished. :shaking:

Why did you bypass the trans? I would run it inline if I could.....So the gage said 300 and at the same time the fluid in the cooler line was not hot? Maybe a pinched or obstructed cooler line?...Yes 300 is way too hot, shut it down at like 240 to be safe.
tsm1mt 08-14-2009, 01:35 AM Went to a Hamfest (http://www.gwhamfest.org), camped, "wheeled" Glacier, and set my Scout on fire before the trip was over. A small fire. Whew.

Oh....I guess you were busy trying to put it out. :flipoff2:

You got that right!
I was busying putting out the fire, Michelle yanked both girls out of the back in record time.
Aside from some toxic smoke inhaled.. damage looks to be just a few blown fuses, one SMOKED radio pigtail, and some damage to the bulkhead connector.
I think it's all-better, aside from the pile of stuff that I was yanking out that needs put back in - the CB, the brake controller, and whatever else was in the vicinity. :D
