I have the T-case out of my truck and would like to change the gearing while it is out. It is a 1.667 ratio LT-230 and would like to keep the existing high range while changing the low range to a crawler gear. What experience do you guys have with this? Any recommendations on which make, Ashcroft, GBR or other? Price? What ratio if I am running 36's?
Thanks in advance for your input.

Welcome Newbie :flipoff2:
Glad to see you here.
With regard to your question, I would stay with the stock gearing and add a crawler box, the cost is greater, but you end up with more options.

I am assuming that you are talking about Coopers crawler box? How much is it and what are the "more options"?

Christian,
Timm's is an option, however it isn't in production yet. Ashrcoft has on you can get, www.eastcoastrover.com for more info.
The 'more options' are that you will have 1.6 high, 3.3 low and the with the crawler ingaged you have crawler high and crawler low That gives you 16 forward speeds and 4 reverse. By regearing the Tcase you keep 8 forward and 2 reverse, but low is just lower.
Does that make sense? I know its correct, but did I convey my point? Yea I don't know. Its friday, Im already thinking about spending the weekend in the Napa Valley. 2hrs to go!

That makes sense. I like the options but it is a little pricey. Any idea how much the crawler gear set is (not the crawler box)?

Here in OZ you can get crawler gears from Maxi Drive they also make diff lockers that are very similar to Jac Mac's .
They cost around $1500 au

Installed the maxidrive (GBR) crawler gears 2 weeks ago in my disco.
$1670 au for the gears and another $2000 to regear to 1.4 high and replace a lot of other worn out bits.
You need to send them your gears to be modified or it can be done on an exchange basis for ones in excellent condition.

Christian,
I run only 32" tyres and have stock 24 spline half shafts.
With 3.54 diffs I get 56:1 low low, stock was 43:1.
I plan to only ever go to 34" tyres and the new gearing will be perfect for them. You have to remmember I only have a little 2.5 l Tdi to move this truck.
