: AZ wheeling: Isn't there anyone on this BB besides Toyota guys?
Having been on this BB for awhile and meeting a lot of great people from all over the place, I am still suprised that our group that wheels regularily is almost completely Toyota. Aren't there any AZ Jeeps, Broncos, Scouts, ect. in on this BB that go rock crawling? I can only conclude that the rest of you are all talk and you are afraid to get shown up by some little Toyotas.

Cmon, Saturday night, Table Mesa Rd. dirt parking lot 6:00 pm.
Or are you all wussys?:D
nice baiting post - let's see if it works ;)
McSoo 09-13-2002, 01:49 PM When I finish up the Pathfinder sometime around November/December (financial limits right now.. :( ) you will have a Nissan tagging along.. :D
Blatant 09-13-2002, 02:00 PM Dude, there are a ton of AZ rockcrawlers here. Shit, you know how it mostly works. Jeeps with Jeeps, Toys with Toys, ad nauseum. Most of us have a core group that we wheel with, people we trust in sketchy situations and we're happy with that.
Hell, I always like to meet new people, though. If I get my steering arms clearanced a touch (they're hitting my shocks on full stuff and hard lock turns), I might show, depending on what you're running.
Dion
coyote 09-13-2002, 02:45 PM I got a Toy but mine ain't little...might stop by! Either that or the first trip in October after you guys get back from Cali....aka Hammer time
elf_cruiser 09-13-2002, 03:06 PM I'll be there. If coyote doesn't bring his, he will be riding shotgun with me!
Oh, and my toy isn't little either...

Im with Dion on this one, also some of us arent as hardcore as you Toy guys yet. It takes time, and no one wants a under built rig tackling something they cant run.
Just my .02$

Yea, sorry I can't make it but I would love to go 'wheeling with you guys. I am up for anything after november 10th, just let me know.

BadDog 09-13-2002, 05:41 PM Hehe, I'll be on TM tomorrow; done, and gone before you even get started. Small closed group moving fast, we have out of towners that want to be done early and out of the heat, but no night runs... We're starting around 8 and planning on bailing around 12-2 or so, depending. Thinking maybe Upper Term, Predator, or similar...

BadDog 09-14-2002, 03:42 PM Just got back. I gotta say, upper Terminator was disappointing after all the stuff I've heard...
RHINO 09-14-2002, 06:51 PM i'd like to know what you heard, i run both terminators with open diffs and 29:1 low
BadDog 09-14-2002, 10:16 PM Both open diffs on both trails? If you took the hard lines on Lower open at both ends, I'm impressed... Upper, sure, if it was dry, which it wasn't today, but anyone not locked would have had major trouble today. Every obstacle was standing in water or right after a water/mud pool. The only one I see that would be a problem on a dry Upper is the first "V" slot, I can't see that run by open axles, but, then, I'm new to the semi-hardcore crawling crowd.
As to what I've heard about Upper. People saying it's "not full-size friendly", "can't go there in a full-size without sacrificing the body", "broken rigs", etc. People specifically said it was much worse than Lower. Basically, I thought Lower was fun. Not that hard but fun. I expected upper to be MUCH harder than lower. Guess that's just my newbie exuberance. One of the guys kept telling me Upper wasn't that big a deal, he was right...
It was a good day with some great guys, and we had some fun but, I sorta wish I had slept in and stayed out of the heat. Good thing was my 15 year old son drove several obstacles and my father (visiting from out of town) got to drive some too. I was basically just driving it between “obstacles” (such as they were) and handing it over to them. We’ve been running harder trails and my son was nervous about driving the real obstacles. At least this gave them both something they were comfortable driving… :D

Not to discourage you, but I think the point of this thread was not to separate vehicles into groups, but combine them. You know, get a congomo of Toys, Heeps, and other vehicles together to go wheeling.
RHINO 09-15-2002, 02:09 PM bad dog, yup open at both ends no problem. i see the need for a doubler before lockers, maybe its the weight of my rig with good wheel travel, but i havent had a need for a locker yet.
1248bullitt 09-15-2002, 03:05 PM So which trails are full size friendly?
Wes
elf_cruiser 09-15-2002, 03:12 PM So which trails are full size friendly?
well, anaconda broke my leaf spring. The definition of "friendly" depends on whether or not you care about body damage.
BadDog 09-15-2002, 03:46 PM Which trails are considered "full-size friendly" or "short wheel base friendly", etc. also depends on who you talk to. I haven't been wheeling in the Phoenix area long enough to know which trails classify as what.

You A$$'s are where all the rock stacking is coming from, either that or you don't know where the line is.
:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
I saw some of your Toy/Zuk rock stacking $hit at Overdose in FJ this weekend too. Making a friggin highway over obstacles doesn't count.
BadDog 09-15-2002, 06:00 PM Hmmm, I did see a bunch of "fill rocks" on Upper... I was going to remove them (and did dig out a few) but was told they may have been deposited by the flash floods from a week ago, so I should leave them... And it was hot... So I didn't argue much. :D We had to stack twice (both times to save a drive shaft) and I (meaning I did most of it) made sure every one got hauled out of the trail to roughly the points they came from. I hate stackers who don't clean up.

Just who the fawk are you refering to? I the pirate board has attracted another shit-talking web wheeler. We consider Terminator a freakin' highway and run it ten minutes. We don't even get out of our rigs let alone stacking rocks. Me, JackA and Kongs ran Overdose a couple of weeks ago in about 30 min. Sorry, no time for rock stacking there either. If you think you are such hot shit- bring on your dana 30 equipped 99 TJ and show us Toy/Zuk guys how its done.

No, see you don't get the point; if you are running these trails unlocked, or without selectable lockers, and the gearing mentioned you will have to stack, no doubt. I spent 45 minutes cleaning the stacked rocks out of Overdose and didn't even make a dent in all of them. Maybe the reason you run the fawking trails so quick is you are using the stacked rocks, that supposely, someone else put there. Why don't you try unstacking the rocks and going through it? Too tough? :flipoff2:
As for my '99 TJ with the D30; I won't take it through those friggin' trails because, I know, it is not equipped for those trails and I won't stack rocks to make it equipped for those trails. You see some of us have a brain.
What's a matter a$$hole you forgot to mention the '84 CJ7 I am building. I'll be glad to go through those trails with you when I get that done :flipoff2: . Oh maybe in your research to find out what rig I have that one slipped your mind, ain't hard to slip off what you don't have, huh? Oh yeah, we'll do the trails only after all the rocks are unstacked :flipoff2: :flipoff2: .
{Edit} Maybe these are your friend not even getting out of their rigs, :shaking: (http://www.azrockcrawler.com/_images/2002/4-02overdose/4-02overdose.html)
For all of those who weren't able to make it last night, we started at 6:00 p.m. and hit Anaconda first. elf_cruiser's first trip with us didn't start to well. He quickly confirmed our suspicions that not only is that trail not Rockwell friendly, but with an open diff in the front it is just impossible. While he was making repairs and getting turned around, we finished upper and lower Anaconda(Kongs ran it twice after coming around to winch Wes back out of the chute) we shot up lower Terminator and Pedator without stopping. The first waterfall on Anhialator was full of water that made it a real hoot. We managed to remove any rock stacking that had been there with full throttle, tire spinning assults on the cliff face. I am sure someone got some cool photos. The second waterfall was just as fun. Back to the trailers by 1:00 A.M.
Next weekend it's the Hammers and the RCCA finals! So if you see my beat up little red Toyota stop and say hi, maybe hit a few trails:cool:
elf_cruiser 09-15-2002, 07:20 PM i don't know anything about rock-stacking, as i am not a big fan of it either. I do know about leaf springs however...
Just need to throw some more $$ at the rig, and I'll be back out there to try again!!

BadDog 09-15-2002, 07:40 PM Hey, give me a buz when things cool off, I would love to go out with you guys. Don't know if I'm up to marathon like that but, sounds like fun.
Right now I have no rock lights so night runs are out, unless I get energetic, and, until it cools down some more, that's unlikely. I've also got some work to do including my tube front to protect the radiator and provide some visibility. Also gotta build a wrap bar and replace the rear springs since I toasted them on the first outing. Other than that, I'm ready to roll (which is why I need the radiator protection! :D)...
RHINO 09-15-2002, 08:08 PM You A$$'s are where all the rock stacking is coming from, either that or you don't know where the line is.
hmm hmm hmm  no "we" asses arent but i have seen alot of inexpierenced jeepers stacking.. the only rock stacking i have ever done was to clear my D-shaft up one waterfall, and that was the day i learned i dont do waterfalls in my full bodied 5,000# pig.
that said, i too have a brain and i know what trails i can drive, the terminators are good, predator is pushing it, and the others i dont bother. i have parked my pig a few times and rode shotgun with jack,,my pride is fine. i will however try them when i get lower gearing, i really want to see how far i can go w/o lockers. and to the "other" good spot, florence jct. i run a handfull of trails out there w/o rock stacking. i could run more but i dont wanna stack rocks thats just not what its about to me.
dont be pissed at me just cause your rig needs lockers to go where i have been open
i know you are pissed about the rock stacking, so am i when they dont return the rocks but i'm sure not spouting off at you for doing it, after all i have seen more ill equiped jeeps on the trails than any other rig out there, probly cause there the most popular rigs to buy, but thats just because theres a surplus of used, cheap u.s. mail vehicles being auctioned off. did you buy one with the natural gas option??
BTW, zags thanks for taking my back;)
RHINO 09-15-2002, 08:22 PM elf_cruiser's first trip with us didn't start to well

glad you guys had fun anyway
elf_cruiser 09-15-2002, 08:25 PM think alot of elfs problems would go away with a shackle reversal. you hear me elf??
Yeah i hear ya, i hear ya...
But i seriously just want CO's. So if i did a shackle rev. it would only be temporary. I need to get a job, then just save up and do it the way i want it, then I'll be back out to wheel. I can't just keep breakin and bendin leaves every weekend...

my Jeep doesn't need lockers to go places. I have ARB's so I run open most of the time. The difference between your rig and mine, in this respect, is, if I find a spot I can't go through open I can hit the air and do it locked. I understand though, there are not ARB's for every application/axle, they must make them for Jeeps because of all the mailmen that want to make sure the mail goes through daily. Ohhhh maybe the application isn't the problem, maybe it's the money :D . Mailmen are government employees, great benefits.
Hey really though, when I get my CJ done we ought to try Axle Alley. I would love to see a sami go through that, I would almost pay to watch that. Heck, I would love to see something under 100" do this trail. We could use winches as safety devices only, no pulling.

I have no idea what you are talking about. He knows nothing about my rig or me, to be saying that Jeeps are only good for mailmen. I wasn't saying 'the last time I was an FJ it was being driven by an African across the Sahara' or anything like that. I was just letting him know there are other ways of being open and proving your open driving capabilities without a totally open diff. So why don't you shut up?

WTF is this? We were one of the first groups thru that trail and didn't need to stack any rocks. How do you think I get the pictures a-hole? I get out of my rig. How do you fix a broken pitman arm, uhh, maybe you have to get out of your rig. You wanna hear pathetic. Look back a couple months on the AZVJC for the H2H ride. Nasser , Erik and Myself got lucky and got in front of a 7 or 8 of the VJC members and ran the trail in about an hour. Your brothers stacked the trail to high hell, dumped gear oil everwhere and tore up a cactus making a bypass, they were still on the trail the next day. Nice work. Maybe someday you'll learn it's not what you drive, but who's driving (my buddy Nasser drives a YJ).

Mr. James Towle, Please do not a$$ume. Your conduct on this thread is not becoming of a member of the three clubs that you have listed on your web site. I have a Toyota and have
wheeled with several members of the azvjc. I will be glad to wheel with you and un-stack any rocks we find stacked.
But to make an unjustified blanket statement is just sad.

BadAZYj 09-16-2002, 02:04 PM Cant we all just get along:flipoff2:
James, these are not the guys to be trash talking to. These are the guys that go out and find new, and sometimes harder stuff for us to wheel on. I've only personally wheeled with AZRckCrawler and Elf Cruiser, but both are very cool and excellent wheelers.
And yes the terminators can be done at 29:1 open open, how do I know? Ive done it myself. Granted I was 32:1 but same thing. I had to stack a rock here and there, but I put them back. Now I can run Much harder trails with no stacking, its all part of the game;)

you'd think we could huh??
rockn, come to grips with the fact that not everyone wants to be the hardcore wheeler you are. i dont run more than my rig will do, i push it sometimes but i have lots of fun on medium trails with my open diffed rig. if i get to a spot on a trail where i just cant make it, i will turn around and wont run it again and heres why. i run a full bodied FJ55 and theres only so much i can do with that. if i get to the point where i want to run more difficult trails, believe me i will build a FJ55 tube frame rock machine instead of my current 55.
and chill out man, i was pokin fun at you with the jeep thing cuz you made such a stupid statement about "us" rock stackers without even knowing "us".
haha i just had to update this reply, i just went and looked at the link kongs put up, your trails list, i like the way alot of the ones i run open are listed as "must have lockers f/r" must a driver thing that i dont understand.
